Meet A. Love | makeup artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with A. Love and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi A., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is one of the key ways in which to grow, It allows you to jump out of your comfort zone into a world of unknown, which is essentially the place you want to be. Taking controlled risks allowed me to be the person I envisioned myself to be. Moving to NYC was probably the biggest risk that I’ve taken. It’s also the best decision that I’ve ever made.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a makeup artist and I absolutely love it. I started back home in Wisconsin, practicing on myself and my friends and anyone who’d let me. I began to work on some bigger projects and eventually landed in NYC. I was such a little baby when I think about it. I didn’t know what was available to me or what I truly wanted. Through meeting people and talking with them. I learned different things about the industry, what was available (to me), and what my actual path would be. I think something that I’m proud of was leaving my comfort zone of retail, and stepping into freelancing which was so much more rewarding. I want the world to know my passion for art through my work. I’m so excited for every moment I get to share it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a socialite so we would definitely hit up a party in Soho, FiDi, or somewhere in Midtown. But NYC is endless free fun so we’d have to go to some parks for sure, borough to borough.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is a list of people that I can thank for their inspiration, mentorship and support. I think at the top of my list is my best friend Lateria. She is such a striver on so many levels. We grew up together and have been through so much together. Aside from her being encouraging, I admire the way she handles life with ease. It’s inspiring to witness.
