Meet Aaron Dsouza | Film Editor/Maker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Dsouza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaron, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I was young, my mother was the one who introduced me to the world of movies and TV shows. Being from a theatre background herself, she always had a keen interest in the artistic and technical aspects of filmmaking. I was instantly drawn to it and spent all my time watching films and analyzing them in detail.
As I grew older, I became increasingly drawn to the films directed by Christopher Nolan and edited by Lee Smith. I was in awe of Lee’s editing skills, and I used to dream of working with him. I still do, haha!
One of my favorite films is 1917, edited by Lee Smith. It inspired me to pursue a career in Editing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The life of an editor is not always easy, as is any freelance career. In the beginning, job uncertainty and an existential crisis may leave you questioning your place, but the satisfaction gained from doing the work outweighs those concerns.
I have always believed that maintaining a positive attitude and a constant desire to learn can make any task achievable; this approach has helped me thus far. It helped me collaborate with all my colleagues until now and create a strong relationship with them.
I am thrilled about my current short film, Caroline, which is currently running in a film festival. I am eager to see how the audience will receive it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever I have a friend over, I like to take them out to Oo-Kook, my favorite Korean BBQ spot in Ktown. After that, we usually head out for a pub crawl in West Hollywood.
I also enjoy taking them to the Los Feliz Theatre as I love its retro vibe, and the movies shown by the American Cinematheque are always amazing.
If we have time, I would take them to Malibu to enjoy the beaches and oyster bars. Griffith Park is another great place to walk around and soak up the sun.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am grateful to the American Film Institute for the skills I possess today and for fostering a positive learning environment that led me to make lifelong colleagues and friends.
I would like to express my gratitude to my parents for their unwavering support and positive attitude towards my career. This can be quite challenging, particularly in India where non-engineering or medical careers are looked down upon.
Last but not least, a quick shoutout to my dog Mishty. I miss and love you.
