We had the good fortune of connecting with Shamani Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shamani, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. My mom, grandfather and all of my uncles owned businesses so for me that was the norm. Shop Shani is actually my 3rd business, it’s been a progression of learning what to do better and what not to do over the years and tapping into my authenticity to launch this business. I knew I wanted to do something with vintage and sustainable clothing but I didn’t want to feel pressured or rushed, I wanted to do it when it felt right. It took me two years of research and manifestation before I felt ready to launch but the time came where I was clear on my vision and felt confident putting the project out into the Universe.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a direct reflection of who I am and my lifestyle. I do my best to live consciously and as gently as I can, to choose ethical and sustainable products and to reuse and repurpose as much as possible. This business is an extension of the awareness that I have found over the years combined with an evolution of my personal style and authentic creative expression. I wouldn’t say it was easy getting here, nothing in life worth pursuing really is…it took copious amounts of time, energy, finances, getting out my comfort zone, battling with self doubt etc. However there was a flow and an ease that affirmed I was on the right path and allowed me to trust myself and the project as a whole. I learned how to stay present, to get out of my head, I meditated a lot, journaled, practiced gratitude. I made time for self care, for nature, for yoga, for the things that made me feel connected and inspired. I want this brand to shine light on sustainable and high vibrational living and to inspire others to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So many gems here in Orange County! If I was showing my best friend around town it would have to start with a coffee at Sur and a walk on the beach trail. Lunch on the patio at J’adore on del mar or Organic Tree in Dana Point. Definitely a brunch situation at Mayfield in San Juan one day. Treasure hunt at Casa Verde for the best vintage finds. A Happy hour or live music night with orange wine at the Cellar. The best cocktails in town at the Vine with herbs pulled straight from their garden. A dinner at 9 style sushi the most unassuming little spot next to a liquor store for insane quality and vibe. A proper hot yoga class at YNG to sweat it all out and of course a beach day at Riviera to soak it all up!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout would be to my community in Costa Rica where I was living when this business came into fruition. The first year started with small vintage pop ups in the jungle and the community there was incredibly responsive and supportive. Everyone truly believed in the idea and made me feel confident to expand the business here in the states. Forever grateful for my crew there and the love and support I’ve continued to receive from them.
