We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrian Trice and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrian, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My starting a business was almost involuntary. I spent 13 years in the for-profit education space before my final layoff. I was frustrated with the industry when my friend offered me a position at his tax office. I went to go work for him and found success pretty quickly. After a few years that company went bankrupt and then I was faced with going back to corporate or going rogue. I went with the latter option and it’s been quite the ride!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the co-owner of DNA Financial Solutions. It is a family-based tax practice that I share with my sons Avery and Dorian Sanders. I have been exposed to the tax industry for a decade, but now for the last 6 years, it’s been a brick & mortar.
Business is in my DNA. I grew up around my parents who always had a side hustle on top of their strong income. However, my biggest influencers are my Great-Grand Daddy Will and Momma Girdie who were farmers in the boot hill of Missouri. They raised my mom who has this incredible work ethic. I also stayed with my father’s Aunt Babe while my parents worked. She was the town seamstress and would drag me all over while she hemmed slacks, take measurements for dresses and sell things from their garden. This is why it comes naturally to me. I had the best examples of how to #GetIt!
It hasn’t been easy. When I first got started I experienced a company filing bankruptcy on the firm I worked for and I was out thousands of dollars. I have been sidelining this dream with the responsibility of raising three sons. I have experienced personal challenges that could have been a complete disruption, but the one thing I learned is that your drive must be unshakable. For those of us who chose this lifestyle of being an entrepreneur, it’s become a spiritual path. The obstacles we overcome help us to ascend to the next level in this life.
The one thing I’d want people to know about me, I’m not afraid of the grind! I have these three sons that are watching so they are my biggest source of accountability. How can I tell them to lead, if I am not a leader? How can I expect them to be their best if I don’t show up my very best? We now have a family culture that supports each other’s level up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend come thru to AZ, I”d say let’s hop in the car and head up to Sedona! It’s one of my favorite spots. It’s literally as Soul changing experience. We stay at an Air BnB for a few days, indulge in some vegan food, hike before sunset, check out a spa, get a yoga session in and if time permitted, do a hot air balloon ride.
Us Arizonians are so privileged to have a mecca of healing so close to us. I literally get inspired at a spiritually level every time I visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d say my biggest source of inspiration are my three sons! I am so grateful for them. I also am grateful for my clients and my network. Having so many people around that want to see you win is such a blessing!
