We had the good fortune of connecting with Agnes Suparman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Agnes, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was initially just looking to do something that I truly enjoyed and not really thinking of it as starting my own business. Ever since I was a teenager entering the work force, I always worked to the best of my ability but often found that I was unfulfilled at those jobs. When I learned that there were courses to become certified in Wedding Planning & Coordination, I thought “let’s try this and see what happens”. I haven’t looked back since!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a certified wedding planner/consultant and coordinator. Like you, I also didn’t know this was something you could be certified in! I help engaged couples bring their dream wedding to life.
I believe what sets us apart from other companies are 3 things: 1) our commitment to serving with excellence & kindness. 2) our genuine care for our couples and 3) our spirit of collaboration. It is truly a team effort when it comes to wedding planning.
I am so very proud of the work we have done in this first half of 2022. We’ve completed 21 weddings which is a new record for our company, and we’re not done yet. I am also very proud of our growing team who are always open and receptive to learning new things.
I can attribute where we are professionally today to hard work, perseverance, dedication and daily prayers. There were many, many times I felt like giving up. After becoming a mother and then being laid-off from my then full time job (which wasn’t wedding planning), I felt like I was in an abyss. But it’s like they say, when you hit rock bottom there is nowhere else to go but up. And that’s what we did.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Pasadena is one of our favorite places to hang out and eat – there are so many great eateries there! Our favorites include Mi Piace, Bone Kettle, Copa Vida and Henry Parsons Project. We also love the beach – you can’t skip that when visiting SoCal. We love our OC beaches and often hang out in Laguna Beach. Our favorite brunch spot there is Driftwood Kitchen – can’t go wrong with beachfront dining!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first and foremost want to thank my Lord Jesus Christ because truly without Him I would not be where I am today. This may sound a little cliche, but life is hard and without an anchor like Him I can easily say today wouldn’t be the same. I also want to thank my husband Paul for his tough love and support. When I am off at work on the weekends, he is home with our son and enjoys every minute with him. My AFS (A Fabulous Soiree) team has been the best group of girls to work with, and have really enhanced our clients, vendors and venues experiences with us. I am successful because it is really a group effort.
