Meet Agnesa Papazyan | Clinical Psychologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Agnesa Papazyan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Agnesa, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my career has taught me is the power of resilience. Working in the field of psychology, particularly with individuals facing neurodevelopmental challenges, has shown me that progress can often be nonlinear. There are moments of breakthrough and moments of setback, both for my clients and for myself. Learning to embrace these ups and downs has deepened my understanding of the human experience and the importance of patience and perseverance.
I’ve also learned that every individual’s journey is unique. We each have our own “superpowers” and it’s crucial to approach each situation with empathy. This has reinforced my belief in the importance of fostering a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can thrive at their own pace.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My private practice is dedicated to supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and various learning and behavioral challenges. I prioritize a personalized approach, focusing on the unique needs of each client and their family. By implementing tailored interventions, I strive to make a meaningful difference in my clients’ lives and to witness their growth along the way.
The journey to where I am today has been filled with both rewarding experiences and challenges. As an immigrant, I deeply understand the cultural nuances that can impact mental health, including the stigma that often surrounds it. Establishing my practice required grit and a steadfast commitment to continuous learning, and I make it a point to stay current with the latest ASD research and best practices so that I can offer the best support possible.
At the heart of my work lies genuine empathy and advocacy for the communities I care about. I find fulfillment in creating a safe and supportive space where my clients can discover hope and empowerment, free from the constraints of mental health and cultural stigmas.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Los Angeles for a week, I know we’d have so much to choose from in terms of activities, restaurants, and sights! That’s what I love about LA—there’s truly something for everyone.
First up, we would need to grab a flat white at Alfred Coffee or Coffee Fix in Studio City (but really there are so many cozy coffee shops in LA, perfect for chatting or working). I’d also love to take her on a hike at Fryman Canyon. The views of the Valley are so stunning. We could also explore some of the amazing LA museums like LACMA or The Broad.
If they’re visiting in the summer, I’d definitely take them to some of my favorite beaches in Malibu for a day of sun. And of course, it would be amazing to see Teddy Swims perform at one of the iconic music venues in LA, like the Greek Theatre or Kia Forum!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, whose support and encouragement have been instrumental to me finding my voice in the mental health space. They have been my biggest advocates and have provided me with the foundation I needed to grow both personally and professionally.
I also want to acknowledge my mentors, particularly those at CHOC Children’s Hospital and the Autism Clinic at The Children’s Center in Michigan. Their guidance and support shaped my approach to clinical practice and inspired me to pursue a specialty in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each of these relationships has reinforced my commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others and shining a light on each person’s unique “superpowers.
