Meet Agustin Castaneda

We had the good fortune of connecting with Agustin Castaneda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Agustin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was younger, I was very involved in the street life and used writing (poems, lyrics, etc.) as a form of expression and a way to cope with my emotions. I was also a a huge fan of Tupac. My twin brother and I went to see the Tupac Resurrection documentary in theaters. When we left the theater, I felt inspired and thought, “Maybe I can do this too.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
By day, I work in Libraries for a large private University. My work is back end library project and isn’t what most people think of when they think Library. I do a lot logistics and project management. When I get home, I have a home studio I like to work in and even when I’m not releasing material, I’m writing or recording material.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the Arts District and that’s why I decided to move their 2 years ago. It’s a calm neighborhood with a great night life. It has bars, breweries, and lost of restaurants. They best things about it, is that the atmosphere is casual unlike Hollywood and the crowd is usually older. Another great thing about the Arts District is that its so close to Little Tokyo.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The record label Funk Volume, specially the CEO Damien Ritter, has been a huge inspiration when it comes to music and life in general. When I was in college, I got to intern for Funk Volume and met/worked under Damien Ritter. At the time I interned, they had just started and had little to no success. Eventually, the record label would blow up and it would lead to a lot of opportunities. I got to travel outside of Los Angeles for the first time, touring with their artist Hopsin in several cities in the US. I’ve had the opportunity to work on order projects such as “One Week Notice” thanks for my relationship and friendship with Damien Ritter.
Damien Ritter started the Music Entrepreneur Club and the Independent Living Podcast to help artist. Damien advocates for a realistic approach to music and art in general. This has had a huge impact on my expectations for my art.
