We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Nordlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think taking calculated risks is necessary in life. I have taken a lof of risks in my life and career, some of them turned out to be great and some risks I should have avoided taking. You never know where life will take you but I belive we should venture out of our comfort zone, explore, experience and live life. I would not be where I am today if I would not have taken any risks
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There has been a lot of challenges and my journey hasn’t always been easy. I left Finland as a 19 yeard old naive young woman, with big dreams and asspirations. Those dreams borught me to where I am today, and I can truthfully say that some of the dreams I had, I have conquered. I’ve come to learn that when I truly want something, when I have a burning desire for it, I usually achiveve it one way or another. And the things I didn’t achieve, I guess I did not want as badly after all.
But I honestly don’t feel like I have made it or that I am that succesful. There is still so much I want to accomplish and often times I am dissapointed in myself because I feel like I should be further ahead on my journey than what I am. That I should be something greater. I try to not compare myself to other women but it is so hard not to, hahaa.
I do belive that anything is possible and as long as there is a will, there is a way!
At the end of the day, I’m just like everyone else. I too am insecure, and have a lot of self doubt. But I also have a burning desire to succeed and that burning desire is what keeps me going.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love nature. Being outside makes me incredibly happy. So I would defentively take my friends to my favorite beach in Malibu, Laguna Beach and Dana Point. I love the cute small town feel of Santa Barbra and I love driving along the coast to get there. Visiting a winery in Santa Barbara would be a must. We would have Dinner at Massilia in Santa Monica and drink at EP/LPs rooftop bar in West Hollywood. I am a huge hiker and would take my friends on several different hiking expeditions throughout LA.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have received a lot of support on my journey. My biggest supporters have always been my parents. I was always told I could become anything I wanted to. My dreams have changed and evolved throughout the years but, the love, support and encourgmanet from my parents has always stayed the same.
