We had the good fortune of connecting with Bria Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bria, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a career in the artistic field because I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. Have you ever been on a job or in an environment and you realized that it just wasn’t the place for you? I realized that being a creative brings me so much peace and happiness. I am in my element when I am making music or creating a look for a photo shoot. Music and fashion have always been my voice when I felt I couldn’t express myself fully or I felt silent in a crowded place. When people hear me sing or see me walking down the runway in a “fly” outfit they are like wow I love her vibe. Another reason why I choose to pursue a career in the artistic/creative field is to share my truth and my story with the world in a way that I feel is relatable. I love creating projects that show anything is possible.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I am a singer/songwriter who loves to act and model as well. My first love is music and for the past year I have been working on my debut project called Gemin-EYE Untamed set to be released on August 27th on all major platforms. This project will completely show how serious I take my artistry. I was very hands on with this project. Down to every note, every lyric, every musical breakdown, to assisting with making the beat. Every detail is important because it contributes to the whole experience when you are listening to it. Each song has a level of emotion behind and it shows the growth of me as an individual and me as an artist. For a long time I’ve always wanted to pursue music as a career. I’ve received a lot of concern like, “How are you going to live?” “How are you going to make money doing music?” I literally said I will figure out. That is exactly what I did. Every opportunity I saw to learn more about the music industry, really the entertainment industry as a whole I did. I had to learn all aspects of the industry like production, business, and building connections. I had to work gigs that paid little to nothing to gain a lifetime of knowledge. Anything that I learn I apply my morals and values to as I navigate through my life as an artist. I want the world to know that I am leaving an impression of my soul by sharing my gifts and talents with the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am still new to California so I would take my best friend to all the spots that I have been already. So like the Westfield Century Mall in Century City. We would go to Malibu beach because it is beautiful and peaceful. Also when the waves come in it’s like you’re getting a cleanse. I would also take my bestfriend thrifting on Melrose. Melrose is so dope to me because not only can you shop and find some dope pieces in the different boutique shops but you can definitely find some spots to take some really creative photos. Next we would go to the Santa Monica Pier to enjoy the nice carnival/theme park vibes. Last but not least we would go to Hollywood to go to the Museum of Illusions, Museum of Selfies, and then possibly see a broadway show. Now for food we would go to one of my favorite spots El Tejano for the margaritas. Oh my gosh! They are soo good. I would also take my bestie to eat Dulan’s!!! They have such great soul food and it is amazing. On another day we could find a cute day party that’s also serving brunch. Who doesn’t love a good mimosa! Overall that pretty much sums up the week in a nutshell. Outside of all those activities we would definitely make time to catch up with each other at my house, maybe cook a meal with some wine and have “Girl Talk”.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and my music team. Without them I would not be as far as I am. I want to specifically thank Michael Green over at entourage studios for connecting me with various producers, engineers, and other artists as well as providing valuable insight on ways to excel in the music industry. I want to thank my manager Micael Henderson for believing in me and for assisting in the songwriting process as well as keeping me knowledgeable on what to expect on the business end. I have to give a shout to my head of marketing. His name is Noel. He helps me to understand the importance of branding and keeping my audience engaged with my artistry. I also want to shout out the producers and engineers I have worked with. Jwash, Drew Scott, Benubeats, and many more I am so grateful to have worked with these amazing and talented individuals. Last but not least I want to thank my entire family for always reminding me where I come from and that I am loved and protected by genuine beautiful souls who will always keep it real with me.
