We had the good fortune of connecting with Ahmad Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ahmad, what principle do you value most?
Honesty is very important to me. When it comes to all of my products, I am as honest as I can be about the all uses others can get out of it. I might add some flowery language to some of my listings but I genuinely believe everything that I put out there for my customers to enjoy, I’m just carrying the vibe that I get from my selections using words. That honesty I carry, comes with extensive testing and making sure that I am creating something that I would buy for myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is that I put my life experiences into my work. For example, I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, and when I was there I used to have such fond memories of getting pralines with my family when I was a child, and I tapped into that to create one of my best selling candles simply called New Orleans Pralines. People that haven’t even been to New Orleans can feel how inspired it is by my city and that is amazing. I would say that’s what I’m most proud and excited about, having people that are first time buyers of my brand and they will message me about how good it is for them.

I got to where I am professionally with much help from friends, family, long hours on YouTube and Google looking for and researching answers for all the questions I had starting up. As of right now, we carry candles, wax melts, room sprays, and car diffusers, and they all require different formulas.

So it’s safe to say it was not easy at all, but I feel like the best thing about it was that it was honestly fun to do, the challenges that I faced became the drive to sit down and get it done because I was so passionate about how I wanted my products to smell or look that I wouldn’t stop until I got it right and that’s something I’ll always cherish.

An important lesson I’ve learned is how to manage my time, I used to spend all night making products because it was so fun I would get intensely focused on it just to find myself exhausted in the morning after. I’ve learned to create a better work/life balance and allocate my time more efficiently since I’ve been in business.

What I would like people to know about Solar Candle Company is that it’s just me and my wife curating these products, and we are dedicated to making your living spaces smell great. Our products don’t carry any harmful chemicals that you can breathe in and that’s important for people that have asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory issues like myself. We pride ourselves on making these safe and clean scents and we hope that you enjoy!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m in Atlanta, GA so this is home to good food, good people and wonderful times, perfect for my best friend that I haven’t seen in forever!

For the first day I would say we would go out to the Georgia Aquarium. Every time I go there it’s an amazing experience that has games, great selections of food and of course the aquatic life there that is truly breathtaking, you can easily spend 6 hours in there taking everything in.

For the second day, Six Flags over Georgia is a great spot to go to, tons of games, rides, prizes, you name it, Six Flags has it. It’s a little ways from the city, but getting there is worth it because you’re not going to want to leave!

For the third day, we would kinda take it easy, and just get some great pizza and walk around Centennial Park. There’s a spot by the Georgia Aquarium called Max’s Coal Oven Pizzeria, they make the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life, they are so awesome over there, I can’t wait to go back.

The fourth day? We would have to leave Atlanta and head a little further down south of the city to Clayton County, Georgia. First we would go my personal favorite wing spot, Wow Wings. They make the best wings with any kind of sauces that you want and they make sure your order is right. Next we head a further bit down south to the Atlanta Motor Speedway, I swear there’s always something going on there, if not a monster truck rally than it’s a car show with people showing off their heavily modified cars. It’s a pretty cool experience.

The fifth day would be easy, there’s an amazing attraction in Atlanta called Skyline Park, where you can play games, go golfing and more. The real fun is that it’s all on top of a rooftop so you can see the city from a whole different perspective.

Sixth day out and we haven’t been to a mall yet? Let’s change that! My personal favorites are Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza, but it does get crowded in there, so I would suggest we go early in the daytime.
Another mall that’s pretty good is Southlake mall in Morrow, GA. It’s nice there, a decent amount of stores but I feel like where it really wins is that it has one of the only Auntie Anne’s pretzel shops in the Atlanta area that isn’t in the ATL Airport. It’s definitely worth it.

For the seventh and final day I’d recommend the Atlanta Zoo, there’s so much to do you honestly can’t fit it into a whole day, but you can spend 6 hours trying to do so. Between the countless exhibits and hands on demonstrations they have with showcasing some of the animals there, it’s one of the best experiences that you can have in Atlanta.

I think that sums up some of my city and the places I usually frequent. It’s so much more that’s here, but I feel like this week long trip does my city justice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be here if it wasn’t for my amazing wife, Dymond. She is such an important aspect of my personal journey as a business owner by being one as well and having the kindness and grace of teaching me what they have learned. Everything that I’ve learned initially about how to be a good business owner, I’ve received that from my wife, so I would like to give you a shoutout for everything that you have done for me, you have truly changed my life in ways I could not fathom and I’ll be forever grateful!
