We had the good fortune of connecting with Ailin Gong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ailin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career as a sound editor because of my deep passion for sound and my love for the art of storytelling. Sound has always fascinated me, and I firmly believe that it plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall cinematic experience. The ability to create immersive soundscapes that evoke emotions, heighten tension, and bring narratives to life is something that truly excites me.I find joy in exploring the creative possibilities of sound and discovering new ways to use it as a tool for artistic expression. Sound editing and designing allows me to combine technical expertise with artistic vision, enabling me to shape and manipulate audio elements to create impactful and memorable moments in film and other media. It is akin to witnessing the creation of a work of art, observing its evolution from its early drafts to the finished masterpiece. Throughout the process, I am intimately acquainted with the immense effort we have invested and the artistic decisions we have made in every aspect. From meticulously addressing even the smallest details tucked away in corners, I am cognizant of the hidden work that contributes to the final product. As the completed work is exhibited, the audience perceives it as a cohesive piece of art, but I possess the unique perspective of understanding the intricacies that lie beneath the surface and how they collectively shape the overall outcome.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a sound editor for motion pictures. My work primarily revolves around the captivating world of theatrical films and television shows, including prominent platforms like HBO, Netflix, Hulu, and PBS, among others. Some recent projects that I’ve worked on includes “George&Tammy”, “Plague at the Golden Gate”, “The Righteous Gemstones Season 3” ,which has recently aired, additionally, I am currently involved in the upcoming “Dr. Death Season 2.” Upon entering the film industry, I began my journey as an assistant sound editor, gradually progressing over the years to become a sound editor. It has been an enjoyable and rewarding path, allowing me to gain valuable experience along the way. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to serve under various roles on different projects. For instance, I worked as a dialogue editor on “Chateau Vato,” handled sound effects editing for “Dickinson Season 3” and “Plague at the Golden Gate,” and served as the foley supervisor on “The Righteous Gemstones Season 3.”
This is a great learning and training process. I have gained valuable insights into the broader perspective of creating a cohesive soundscape. It has allowed me to better communicate and collaborate with other sound editors. For example, during my sound effects editing for “Dickinson Season 3,” I maintained close communication with the foley editor. This allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the areas where foley work could effectively contribute and where sound effects could provide better results. In my role as the foley supervisor for “The Righteous Gemstones Season 3,” my perspective shifted. Drawing upon my experience as a sound effects editor, I was able to better discern the ways in which foley could complement and compensate for sound effects.
With every new journey, I am ready to immerse myself fully, face new creative obstacles head-on, and continue evolving as a sound editor. The future holds endless possibilities, and I am excited to embrace each opportunity with enthusiasm, dedication, and a thirst for artistic exploration.

The city is brimming with numerous enchanting locations. If I were to select a handful, I would likely mention the American Museum of Natural History, the New York Botanical Garden, and the iconic Radio City Music Hall.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to extend my appreciation to my teammates, as they deserve a special acknowledgment. Sound work in the realm of motion pictures typically thrives on collaboration and teamwork. Each individual has their designated responsibilities, and the success of any given project is a collective effort contributed by everyone involved.
