Meet Ajijul Hasan Surzo | Film Director, DP & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ajijul Hasan Surzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ajijul Hasan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career because filmmaking speaks to something deeper in me, a desire to connect, reflect, and elevate. Early on, I saw how stories on screen could transcend borders, languages, and backgrounds. That universal language of emotion and truth drew me in completely.
But what truly shaped my journey wasn’t just the craft, it was the appreciation. When audiences react and say, “Your story really mattered,” it’s more than validation, it’s fuel. That kind of response gave me strength, built my confidence, and expanded my dreams far beyond what I imagined.
The awards and nominations have been deeply encouraging, and each one pushes me to tell bolder, more meaningful stories. Through my work at Craft Films LA, I’ve found purpose in exploring topics like human rights, cultural identity, and social transformation. With every project, I aim not just to entertain, but to create an experience that resonates and stays with the audience.
This isn’t just about filmmaking. It’s about impact, responsibility, and honoring the voices that deserve to be heard. It’s been an incredible journey shaped by gratitude, growth, and the belief that storytelling can truly change lives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is all about connection. I want to create films that make you feel something, stories that tackle real-world issues and resonate on a deep, human level. It’s about truth, not trends.
My professional journey from Bangladesh to Hollywood was challenging, and breaking in as an outsider wasn’t easy. But I learned that if you can’t find an open door, you have to build your own, and then hold it open for others. That struggle is what I’m most proud of, because it gave me my mission.
That mission is what drives Craft Films LA. What I want the world to know is that we are more than just a production company. We are a movement to prove you can create powerful art while championing the artist. We’re here to help important, underserved stories find their voice.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to town, I’d skip the tourist checklist and dive into the soul of LA. We’d catch a cultural film screening, something foreign or classic that sparks conversation, and then balance it out with a hike in the hills for sweeping views. To top it off, we’d ride motorcycles along the Pacific coast, chasing that California freedom. It’s all about mixing deep storytelling with raw beauty.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the love and support of incredible people. My family, especially my mom and my amazing wife, are the foundation that keeps me grounded and fearless. At Craft Films LA, I’m blessed to work with passionate filmmakers and true friends who believe in us and push us forward. And to our investors, sponsors and clients, thanks for trusting us to tell stories that matters. I’m proud, but I’m never alone in this journey.
