We had the good fortune of connecting with Akar Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Akar, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
When it comes to figuring out whether to keep going or to give up, the key is knowing what you really want. If you’re truly passionate about something, you don’t give up, you just make adjustments and find a way to balance it with the rest of your life. But if you lose interest and something else is pulling you in a new direction, it’s cool to let go, as long as you have something else to put your energy into. It’s all about always working towards something that matters to you. So yeah, just keep moving, stay focused, and live for what drives you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

1. Tell us more about your art:
• I’m a fashion and lifestyle influencer, and my art lies in the way I present these elements through content creation. My journey into this space has been a huge learning experience, but it’s also what has shaped me into the creator I am today. From trying on different fits to exploring new places, I share it all with my audience, giving them a glimpse into my world.

2. What sets you apart from others?
• What sets me apart from others is my approach to content. I’m currently concentrating on growing my Instagram by creating fashion and lifestyle videos. I showcase my style by trying on different fits, exploring new places in LA, and sharing these experiences with my audience. My content isn’t just about the clothes; it’s about giving people a feel for the lifestyle of someone who genuinely loves fashion. There’s more to come as I plan to gradually open up and share even more aspects of my life with my followers.

3. What are you most proud of or excited about?
• One of the things I’m most proud of is deciding to build myself as a brand first before focusing on anything else. This shift in focus allowed me to create a strong foundation, and I’m excited about the direction I’m heading in as a result of this decision.

4. How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
• My professional journey started in 2018 when I began making YouTube videos focused on sneaker reviews and thrift vlogs. Over time, my content evolved into lifestyle vlogs, capturing moments with friends and living in the moment. By 2023, I realized that I needed to refocus on my personal growth and journey, rather than just documenting random moments. This led me to take a break in 2022 to re-evaluate my direction. It hasn’t been an easy path—especially with setbacks like my camera breaking after I moved to LA—but I’ve learned to adapt and keep moving forward.

5. What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
• Throughout this journey, I’ve learned the importance of staying true to myself and continuously evolving. Adapting to change and remaining authentic has been crucial in overcoming challenges and staying committed to my goals.

6. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
• What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that it’s all about authenticity, growth, and staying committed to the journey. I’m building something that reflects who I am, and I’m taking my time to ensure that it evolves naturally, staying true to my vision.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Places to Eat:
First off, I’m not someone who eats out a lot—I usually cook at home. But there are a few spots I’ve discovered that I really like. For a good meal, I’d take them to Starbird for some of the best chicken tenders out there—honestly, I think they’re better than Chick-fil-A. Then there’s Hopdoddy, an amazing burger spot with sweet potato fries that made me fall in love with sweet potato fries. We’d also hit up Smashburger, another great place for burgers. I’m a big fan of burger and chicken spots, but I’m starting to explore more. I’ve been to a sandwich shop that I believe is called Mendocino Farms, where they serve healthy, delicious sandwiches. And I’m interested in trying out some soul food, Italian spots, and maybe even a seafood place, even though seafood isn’t really my thing. There’s also this Peruvian pizza place I’ve tried, which was surprisingly good, but I can’t remember the name right now.

Activities and Places to Visit:
For some activity, we’d definitely start the mornings with a run. Venice Beach or Santa Monica Beach would be our go-to spots. The view in the morning is unbeatable, and it’s a great way to start the day. Afterward, we’d hit one of those food spots I mentioned for lunch. I’m also into golf, so we’d spend some time at Topgolf or Rancho Park Golf Course, where I attend a golf club weekly. If my friend is into running, we’d join the Venice Run Club for another great run along the beach.

Shopping:
When it comes to shopping, I’m all about thrifting. We’d head over to Melrose Avenue and check out spots like Wasteland, Round Two, and Second Street. There are plenty of vintage shops on Melrose that we’d pass by and explore, too. It’s a great area for finding unique pieces and getting a feel for LA’s style.

Chill Spots:
For a chill vibe, we’d definitely visit Kith. I’m a big fan, and last time I was there, I grabbed some ice cream and even met a famous person named Neon. You might bump into some well-known faces there. If we’re in the mood for coffee, Verve Coffee is a nice spot to hang out and relax.

These are just a few of my favorite spots in LA that I’d show my friend. There’s so much more to explore, but these places give a good mix of what I enjoy—food, fashion, and just good vibes overall.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my older brother, Trevon—I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. Moving away from my hometown, pushing myself to grow—none of that would’ve happened without his influence. Trevon isn’t just my brother; he’s a mentor and someone I can count on every day. He gets what I’m going through because we’re close in age and living similar lives. He’s always there to teach me, keep me grounded, and make sure I stay on track.

Shout out to my grandparents, Mama and Bay-Bay—They’ve taught me so much and helped me appreciate life in ways I couldn’t have on my own. They were there for me during some of the toughest times. When I got kicked out of my parents’ house, they took me in without hesitation. I’ll always be grateful for that. They’ve always had my back, willing to help me out however they can.

Shout out to my mother, Ma—For just being an amazing mom. She’s the one I turn to when I need comfort, and she helps me stay balanced between being mature and still holding onto that youthful side of me. I can still be a kid around Ma, and that’s something I truly cherish. Even when we clash, she’s always there for me, no matter what.

Shout out to my dad (OG)—He keeps me accountable just like Trevon does, but in a different way. My dad’s lived life and holds me to a higher standard from that OG perspective. He keeps me in check, and I admire him for all that he’s accomplished. Seeing what he’s been through and how he handled it motivates me, especially when I realize he’s already been where I’m at now. He’s a great teacher and role model, always pushing me to do better. He never lets me stay down when I’m low—he’s always positive and helps me see tough situations as something I can handle. He doesn’t grab the wheel for me; he shows me how to steer so I can do it on my own.

Shout out to my siblings—You’ve always been there for me. Having you in my life means I don’t need a big circle of friends. My family is everything to me.

Shout out to my core friends—You know who you are. Thank you for being solid, consistent friends. We talk all the time, hold each other accountable, and help each other through whatever comes our way. We learn from each other’s different perspectives and lifestyles, and push each other to do things we never thought we could. We celebrate our wins together, and I appreciate y’all for that.
