We had the good fortune of connecting with Alan Artin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alan, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Don’t overthink shit. Keep putting out content/music that isn’t perfect because that is the only way you will 1) get better
2) find what works
3) learn the value of consistency
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work in the mental health industry and I feel that the field I work in is very closely tied with the skills it takes to be a musician. Patience, being in tune with ones feelings, and emotional regulation are all valuable skills that cross over gracefully between the two professions.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I actually just went on a trip to New York with a friend of mine – it was the first time for both of us and we did a combination of spontaneous and planned activities. Visiting Central Park, going to rooftop bars, seeing the highline, and dining at authentic New York restaurants were some of our favorite moments. We even made a few friends with the locals who later joined us at some of our expeditions.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my buddy Isam for introducing me to ableton and believing that I had some sort of value to provide people with my music creation
Shoutout to ma and pa for not giving up on me and providing moral support in times where I felt most doubtful
Shoutout to the homie Shaun for helping with my mix masters
