We had the good fortune of connecting with Alan Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alan, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
If you never thought about giving up on something you do (work, business, hobbies, etc) you never cared about it in the first place. I say that because it’s not easy! Being a young man raised in Compton, Ca/South Central if you gave up on anything I mean anything it would be seen as a sign of weakness. When people saw weaknesses they’d pounce on them. Manipulate you! My faith in God, my wife to be, my brothers (my circle), my parents they help me keep going! With the TRUTH! With ACCOUNTABILITY! With the trust and leadership instilled in me. I have no choice but to keep going. I have to get everything God set for me to have in this life!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Where I am today, credit to my Lord and Savior. I had two T.I.A’s (mini strokes) in a nine month span. And I believe that was God sitting me down! Humbling me! I was so locked in on work work work I was overlooking the blessings in my life. My best friend Eugene pushed me to church to visit a men’s group that I’m apart to this day, we focused on faith/foundation and having a plan. He also encouraged me with a quote, “This Too Shall Pass”. He loves that quote. But I found importance in health. Without it we can’t do ANYTHING! I pride myself on caring and being helpful that I realized without health I can’t do any of that. So in my recovery I locked in on “Pray Plan Push” every day which is where the P3 comes from in my company name “P3 Training”. Sports skills training and fitness is my business but it’s bigger than that. We focus on mind, body and soul. I’m vulnerable with my clients. I’m open and I’m honest. We bond, we grow, we learn.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hahahaha first stop has to be for food. I love Mexican Food so I’d say Ola, Mamas Por Dias or Tempo Cantina. Drink at Tequila in Hollywood. LA Live if the Lakers are playing. Being from Compton/LA we don’t spend much time in Hollywood but we’d find something out there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God! Giving me the foundation, vision, time, strength and health to fulfill my purpose. My wife to be, Elyse, for trusting me to lead our family, believing in me, loving me, supporting me. My parents for always supporting me. My circle (my brothers) for always keeping it authentic! good ideas, bad ideas, honesty, accountability I’m forever grateful! What I have in them some of the richest people don’t have. Marcus Dupree ESPN 30 for 30 “Best That Never Was”, 18-35 men’s group at church, Measure of A Man by Gene A. Getz. I dedicate this to THEM!
