We had the good fortune of connecting with Alan Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Stop working in things that didn’t make me happy and I wanted to begin working on things that inspired me to be a better designer.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work at a fintech as a UX/UI and graphic designer, but at night I become a gig poster and cover artworks artist. After been working in advertising agencies for some years. After some efforts I crossed paths with Mercadorama a Mexican art collective that is mainly focused in designing official merchandise for the music industry, in 2018 I began collaborating with them by making the official gig poster for the band “Death Cab for Cutie”, and after that I had the chance to collaborate with other important bands like: Tame Impala, Interpol, Kings of Convenience, Idles, among others. Besides collaborating with this collective I began trying to reach other bands by myself and had the chance to design some artworks for other international artists.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take him to some local favorites of my own like: Jardín Juárez, go to a gig in Foro Indie Rocks!, grab a burger at Chubbies, maybe go and watch a movie at Cineteca Nacional, give him a little tour in Colonia Roma, grab a drink at Traspatio Bar after attending some art exhibition at Maia Contemporary. Go downtown and take him to some historical places, museums, and night life.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family, friends, and the Mexican artist collective Mercadorama.
