We had the good fortune of connecting with A’lasia Simone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi A’lasia, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and I first moved to Long Beach, California as a naive teenage girl just knowing I wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry in some way. I grew up having a love for all things performing arts, whether it’s dancing, theater, film, etc., and I just wanted to see how far I’m able to take those passions. I am forever grateful for all of the amazing opportunities I’ve encountered so far like filming “Insecure” with Issa Rae, Performing with Lil Yachty in the Teens Choice Awards, being in Selena Gomez’ “Same Old Love” music video, and more. I’m super grateful for the amazing people I’ve met and worked with along the way, and I cannot wait to see what else life has in store for me!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So, first, I started my career path with Acting. I didn’t want to just “jump” into things with no knowledge of the business so I had enrolled in the Acting Conservatory at Orange County School for the Arts (OCSA) in Santa Ana (which was my first high school). By this time I had already left out of Long Beach and moved to Rosemead, CA, where the distance was over 2 hours away by car, it was quite expensive and mostly, time consuming for me to have a regular life outside of school. I loved my experience at the school, and I had learned all I could of the industry, but unfortunately the obstacle of the distance had became too much to bare, and I had to transfer to a school closer to me. It didn’t really bother me that much though, because by this time I had booked my first major gigs with Disney, Showtime, HBO, and More.
A couple years later, OCSA had opened another school called California School for the Arts (CSARTS) located close to me where they accepted me there too, and I was SO excited that I was able to further my education and still have some time for a life. I also took dance lessons all my life. Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, you name it. I knew I never wanted to establish a professional career around dance but I’ve always wanted to keep it in my life no matter what and it definitely is an asset to my acting career.
I didn’t branch off into modeling (seriously) until I was around 18 years old. Of course I’ve watched ANTM growing up and I’ve had plenty of photo shoots and small runway shows but I truly fell in love with it when I finally learned to love my body and the way it looks and moves in different clothing which I think actually helped me develop some sense of fashion!
But now, I am mainly focusing on hosting! Hosting Events, shows, performances, and more! I am so happy to officially announce my new television series, Exclusives With A’lasia, coming soon on streaming network JEMPTV (Roku & Amazon Fire Tv) in September/October of 2021, I’ve been interviewing and working with some of the biggest artists and celebrities in the game and I cannot wait for everyone to officially see! Moving forward I’ll even be covering some of America’s favorites events showcasing behind the scenes and everything, so make sure you check that out! I’ll be updating everything on my social media!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am all about adrenaline! Hit me up if you wanna ride horses on dusty roads, pop four wheelers in the mountains, or zip line dangerous heights over alligators in a swam in the middle of nowhere! Or if you want to just ride the Superman at Six flags with me that’s cool too lol. Scenes where the energy is live you will definitely catch me at, whether it’s at parties, concerts, festivals, events, etc. Good music and good people with good vibes are all I need to have a good time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe all my successes to my manager, Marquitta Jones, and squad over at JEM Productions. I’ve worked with many many companies since being here, some came, some went, but my team has always been there for me, supporting me through all the ups and downs of this business and I would be nowhere without them! We have the strongest partnership ever and I wouldn’t change it for the world. We’re a true dream team.
