We had the good fortune of connecting with Alberto Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alberto, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I don’t know what I’d do without my google calendar. I’m a fan of blocking off time to focus on tasks that need to get done. It also helps me stay organized, especially when there’s a lot on my plate. Morning workouts have also been a part of my routine for a while now. There’s nothing like starting the day off by completing a workout. The burst of energy in the morning after a workout keeps me alert and focused throughout the day.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What’s been really difficult is earning your stripes within the entertainment industry… it takes commitment, resourcefulness, and perseverance. I worked for free for most of my career in the beginning which led to the opportunities I have now. I’ve learned to be patient and have faith that everything will eventually work itself out and only devote my time on the things I can control like effort for example.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The managers I work for represent some of the biggest names in film and television so there’s always work to be done as an assistant. If I’m not rolling calls or scheduling, I’m reading scripts and providing coverage. I’m in a stage where I’m learning and absorbing as much as I can within representation so listening in on the process for closing deals for talent has really taught me a lot about the business of entertainment.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my family back home, their support and love that has kept me going.
