We had the good fortune of connecting with Alec Dean Boeschen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alec, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri and was fortunate enough to be raised by two loving parents. My father has always been a singer, and so from a young age, I had that musicianship and sense of creation instilled into me. Being from a town where not much happens, yet being burdened with an abundance of imagination, motivation, and urge to create, I’ve never lost those qualities even after moving to Los Angeles where tons of talented artists and creators are chasing the same dream. I thank my parents and family for supporting me in my transition to LA, without them, and the way they raised me, I couldn’t have made it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art ranges across many outlets. As previously stated, I was raised from the beginning with a very creative and performance based environment, so anything I could get my hands on to create, I loved, and still do to this day. Aside from my more obvious (by looking at my instagram) passions of acting and making music, I thoroughly enjoy partaking in, and pride myself on having an eye for, graphic design, voice acting, writing, and even love to cook/bake! I believe what sets me apart is that I am not held down by any one thing, within any one thing. By that I mean, not only do I indulge in many forms of artistic expression like making music, acting, etc., but in my music, I do not stick to one genre or “niche”. When it comes to my acting career, I am not trying to portray myself as any one character type. I simply believe that staying true to who you are and creating what you want to create, what you think is good, is essential to a happy and fulfilling career in the arts. I’d personally rather be a chameleon than a one-trick pony. It certainly wasn’t easy to get where I am today and the fight is long from over, but that’s the beauty of it. Many of my challenges were internal, fighting with myself and my own mind most of the time to continue on the path. I know there are many who face the same struggles, and many of them who have gone on to do amazing things. Their stories are what inspired me to push on and keep pursuing my dream, along with the thought of hopefully becoming that source of inspiration for at least one other person.
Networking, networking, networking. If anyone takes anything from this, it is that they must talk to people, share ideas, LISTEN just as much, if not more than you speak, but make your ideas and your voice heard. If no one will listen: Create, release, and repeat. You will find those who have similar interests and visions and would like to create with you.
I want people to know that I am someone who isn’t trying to sell a brand, I’m not trying to embody an alter ego, I am not even looking for fame, I am simply a man who creates art and wants to share it with the world, showing that it’s alright to show affection, hurt, cry, etc. In doing so, I hope to shed light on something very near and dear to my heart that not enough people speak on: Men’s mental health.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles locals will probably give me some heat for my choices but please cut me some slack as I’ve lived here for less than 2 years lol I’m still learning! In my time here though, I have definitely found my favorite spots when it comes to eats, hang outs, and more. If a friend of mine was coming into town and wanted the “Los Angeles: Alec Dean Boeschen Experience,” I’d have a few things in mind for sure. Firstly, we would head up to Mondo’s Beach in Ventura County to hopefully catch some waves. I’m not an expert surfer by any means, but I can get up on that board and ride that sucker to shore… that’s enough for me to have a blast. Next we’d drive back down to North Hollywood, where I currently reside, hit my favorite lunch spot, Hy Mart Sandwiches, to grab a couple of Kobi Dans with some cream soda and pickle chips. The go to spot my girlfriend, my roommates, and I normally go to for a drink and to relax a bit is the good ole Idle Hour. Giant whiskey barrel shaped bar in North Hollywood + 5 minute walk from our place = home base. But if they were feeling like karaoke, I’d have to take them to R Bar, a charming little karaoke bar in Koreatown with amazing tiger-style fries, where I lived my first year in Cali. The Troubadour and the Greek Theatre are my two favorite venues in California, so I would hope to catch a show at one of the two at least. If my friend came in on a weekend, I’d be sure to take them to the Wat Thai Temple for the weekly food market that they hold there every Saturday and Sunday. The food and culture is breathtaking. Other than that, our time would be spent watching a lot of movies, thrifting at goodwill, and hanging out with my dog, Ralph.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to a few key people in my life: My amazing group of friends and bandmates in Criminal Outpost who are always there for me. My wonderful, patient parents for keeping me on my feet with my chin up throughout the years. And of course, my beautiful, supportive partner, Makayla, for being my rock and my light.
