We had the good fortune of connecting with Venishia Marthrel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Venishia, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is actually a line from Marianne Williamson’s poem Our Deepest Fear. “Your playing small does not serve the world.” This line is so powerful to me because of how simple the message truly is. Often times we live beneath our personal potential threshold. Confidence is key when it comes to life and finding your avenue of success. I firmly believe in living boldly and unapologetically. Live big, take up space, find your confidence and change the world.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born a creative, I believe that is what sets me apart from others. I’ve always excelled exceptionally throughout my educational and professiomnal life, but I’ve always had a hunger for creating. What makes me most proud about being an artist and creator, is the ability to shape my own future. Being a creative person isn’t easy, and comes with lots of skepticism and judgement. There is a security in working a 9-5 job that most don’t think exsists in entrepreneurship. I’ve learned that being a creative allows me the freedom to create my own security, and even help others do the same.
Moods By Monet is a personal wellness brand dedicated to healing and growing as a community. I hope that my story inspires other creators to live in their confidence and change the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am an outdoor lover. L.A has soooo many cool spots to hang outside and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Hiking has become a new favorite hobby, so I’d love to add that to the itinerary. I have a few friends that own dope food trucks in the L.A. area, so we would definitely have to get lunch at one of the vegan trucks. My idea day is just kicking it outside enjoying nature. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout all the many teachers, counselors, family friends, and loved ones who have helped me along the way. I was born and raised in Flint, MI., with numerous odds stacked against me, but because of the people placed on my path, I am here today.
