We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandro Amezquita and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandro, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are growth. Risks are the best opportunity to become better and move forward twice as fast as someone who doesn’t take them. Most people tend to think about the downsides when going into the “unknown”. What they need to realize is that going into the “unknown” is what’s going to take you places people don’t tend to get because they are afraid of taking that step. Moving to LA has been one of the most rewarding risks I’ve ever taken. I wouldn’t have been able to work with Mickey Guyton, Randy Jackson, Brian King Joseph if I didn’t take that risk. Saying “yes” to opportunities is also very important, even if you feel you are not ready. The truth is, there’s no such a thing as being ready. How are you going to be ready for something you have never done before? The moment you take that risk and get out of your comfort zone is the moment you grow.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m very excited for what’s to come in my career. The best part is that I don’t know what’s the next thing coming up. I can get a call tomorrow to perform with my favorite artist, or I might find myself in a really hard situation I need to overcome. I’ve learned that no matter what you are facing, your attitude towards it is extremely important. Having a good attitude is definitely what has set me apart from others, and it can set YOU apart as well. There’s has been times where things don’t go the way I expected, but I kept pushing with a smile on my face and a positive mindset. I’d say that if you believe in yourself and you keep pushing no matter what, you’ll get where you want to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to places such as L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, Sugar Taco, or Mama Shelter to get some food and drinks. I’d probably take them to the Observatory; so many people don’t realize how beautiful the planetarium is. And maybe have a day at Redondo Beach, or at Santa Monica where we could walk on the pier, Third Street Promenade, or just stay at the beach watching the sunset. We could even go and watch our favorite artist at the Hollywood Bowl or local venues to support local artists, maybe both?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always been my biggest supporters/mentors. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am nor the person I am today.
