We had the good fortune of connecting with Alessandro Marianantoni and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alessandro, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
A common denominator among all projects is my passion for technology. However, M Accelerator was born because can’t be only about technology.

Pretty early I discovered that in my first projects I was putting so much work into developing products even when they don’t necessarily were a good fit for other people.

If you think about what happened over the past decades with the convergence of many fields and Information Technology, over the years I was able to work in many different projects learning in-depth about aspects of different fields including environment, healthcare, entertainment, and finance.

Technology is a crucial element of our lives and I am in a convenient spot from where I can produce innovation while looking at society and the impact of technology that is taking place.

Being a founder myself, I wanted to build something that could effectively help creative founders build their projects and businesses with a multidisciplinary and practical approach, a sort of consolidation of all my experiences from multiple angles from engineering to communication, from education to art.

What should our readers know about your business?
Despite the name, M Accelerator isn’t like any other startup program out there. What sets us apart is our culture, our approach to personal and professional growth.  We are really passionate about transforming ideas into sustainable businesses and even though we make the process pretty tangible, it is definitely something that goes beyond practicality. The experience is often transformative and the results are in the great businesses that we have helped grow.

Our program isn’t for everyone, I often say to founders that even though we helped raise more than $17M, if you are only looking for money, we are probably not the right choice. Our main value is on the learning process, but it is a different kind of learning, in our programs we don’t do theory, we create a place for our participants to do the work they need to do to grow their businesses.

I don’t come from the venture capital world, I have just been building project after project, and that is the experience I put in this program. To bring M Accelerator at this stage took a lot of work, many iterations, and definitely a lot of learning, but as I have said before, we are at the beginning.

To overcome challenges is important to stay open-minded, there is always some new to learn. I have taught myself how to code when I was a kid, when I didn’t know how to do something, I was either experimenting with it or looking for some insights in coding manuals. I can say that I still have this mindset, fortunately, today you don’t have to wait for the books in the mail, you just ask the internet or you reach out to your network of people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have done this many times, our typical tour is to show the unexpected L.A. TV and all entertainment have built a certain imaginary about L.A., for my wife and me it is more fun to show our friends the unknown places, so it becomes more like an exploration than a tour. We often bring our friends to DTLA, El Pueblo, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, a walk on South Broadway we show some of the old buildings there, and ..yes, some of the movie locations.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We are just at the beginning of this journey. In these first few years at M Accelerator, I have met incredible people. Working with good entrepreneurs often means working in an environment with energy, creativity, and optimism, while building strong relationships.

In this journey, I definitely dedicate a shootout to Scott Hindell, Lead Business Coach at M Accelerator that joined me since the firsts cohorts, and Noble Drakoln, investor, author, friend, and partner in the new investment fund associated with M Accelerator.
