We had the good fortune of connecting with Alessio Giurgola and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alessio, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My goal is to produce different movies from directors who have a strong voice and are willing and hungry to tell different stories. Alongside the business side, I would still write and direct while co-producing my stories. Almost six years ago I moved from Italy to Los Angeles. I love to live in LA but my ultimate goal is to be able to come back and forth to Italy and the United States and work in both countries.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Since a young age, I always loved to watch movies from all around the world by different directors. To me, the best movies are the ones where you can feel and hear the director’s voice and what they want that the audience get and feel from him. I always look to life as the perfect mix of drama and comedy, so I always want to mix the two things together while exploring different genres. I am a very ironic person, so I love to bring my irony into my films.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone comes to Los Angeles for the first time ever, they definitely need to check the West side passing from Santa Monica, joining their time on the pier and moving towards Venice checking Venice Beach during the day, having dinner in Abbott Kinney, and hang out at night at the different bars and clubs by the Venice sing. LA is the city of movies so a person has to check Universal Studios and the Academy Museum in Wilshire so they can check out also LACMA. Another place that they definetely need to go is Korea Town in Los Angeles to eat Korean BBQ and check out the bars and clubs around that area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my family in Italy. I decided that I wanted to make movies when I was 14 and since then, I convinced them that it was really what I wanted cinema to be part of my life and not just a monthly obsession. From that moment, all my family members have been sure to support me, even if I had to leave Italy and go to study in another country.
