We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Monét and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexander, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Follow Your Dreams”, it means everything to me. The angelic number 222 translates to the “Follow Your Dreams” I live by that. I see 222 everywhere weather it be the time, a number on a license plate, on a recipient, etc. I even have it tattooed on my face. whenever I see this number it reminds me that im going the right direction. I truly believe that you can do anything you set your mind to and that goes for anyone. I make sure to let the ones important to me to me know that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I dont know how to really answer that question, I didnt really like music when I was younger, I actually hated it. My sister would always listen to the same song on repeat a million times and it bugged me to the point where I hated music entirely. I found Lil Wayne and it was something about who he was that made me start to like music. As I got older I listened to more music and different genres like rock and heavy metal my main go to artists were “The Devil Wears Prada”, “Bring Me the Horizon”, and “Panic! At the Disco”. I discovered a group with similar ideals as me called “Flatbush Zombies”, one of the artists “Meechy Darko” literally became my favorite rapper. Then I got into “Tyler the Creator”, and he made me feel like anything was possible. Growing up I didn’t want to rap, ironically I dont like being the center of attention, I don’t really know what lead to me making beats, I just did it and fell in love with it. Overtime I would just rap for fun while making beats seriously which led to me developing a skillset and with the encouragement of my former collective I started rapping seriously and released my first song in 2018 on my birthday. It had more success than I anticipated, and I kept going. Definitely not an easy journey, but if it’s something you want really bad you just gotta keep going and thats where the mindset “you can do anything you set your mind to” comes from.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t go anywhere besides the studio, and but most of my friends are in the music industry so I don’t think they would mind going to the studio. As far as food, I like the cheesecake factory. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
