Meet Alex Camacho | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Camacho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
You know, it’s funny how often I’m asked this question, and every time, I find myself stumbling for a clear-cut answer. I mean, here I am boldly claiming and living out acting as my ‘life’s passion,’ yet I can’t help but feel like I don’t ever really know why. I always had a movie on as a kid. One of those fancy square TV/VHS combos. I wanted to move people the way movies moved me to feel. And as I grew older, acting became more therapeutic. Now as an adult, I think I need it — to work out all the complicated feelings I have inside that come as life goes on. I go between feeling grateful for life and completely broken by it. Acting helps me face both of those…realities. Now, as a supposed ‘grown-up,’ I’ve come to realize that I don’t just want to act – I need to. It’s my personal refuge. My reason is an evolution of my relationship with acting, from childhood dreams to a source of emotional release and introspection as an adult. There is an unexplained deep connection to the craft and how it serves as both a passion and a necessity my life. Go figure.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I can’t help but marvel when people say, ‘I wouldn’t change a thing about all my life’s struggles’—because honestly, I’d request a few edits! Well, mostly kidding. But truth be told, it’s been a whirlwind of comedic missteps and unexpected plot twists on my end. Life has been at times, very challenging for me. Incorporating those real pains and truth into my art has been some of the best use of it yet.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d start our day with a visit to Zweet in Eagle Rock, a cozy local café that has the most friendly faces and delicious lattes—because what’s a trip to LA without coffee? Then, we’d dive into some epic thrift shopping. Mariscos Jalisco food truck. Afterward, we’d immerse ourselves in LACMA or the Getty Museum. And of course, we couldn’t miss catching a breathtaking sunset from the beach—it’s the perfect way to end a day filled with laughing and exploration. As evening falls, we’d head out for a night of dancing at the Desert 5 Spot, my go-to spot for dancing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, I’m currently studying at the Ivana Chubbuck Acting Studio, and they have this magical ability to make me squirm in my seat—in the best way possible, of course. The coaches, including the formidable Ivana herself, have this uncanny knack for pushing me way beyond my comfort zone. And let me tell you, it’s like a masterclass in awkwardness. In that discomfort, I’ve found some of the most profound moments of growth as an actor thus far in my journey. And my classmates? Oh, they’re a whole other level of inspiring. Every week, they’re up there, giving it their all, and I’m just trying to keep up. It’s like they’re speaking a language I’m still learning, and wow, it’s humbling.
I would also like to shout out my New Jersey hailing grandmother Gerry Abbott, she deserves all the credit for simply believing in me. She pulled me out of school one day (unbeknownst to mom) and drove me to a movie set and insisted they use me in the film, getting me my first ever credit at 9 years old. We would watch old movies together and listen to her music all day, making me waaaay cooler than I ever could have been without her. I love her. I miss her deeply.
