We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Dunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When Moses and myself decided to finally start Outer Heaven Creations it was out of a desire to not conform to the typical work life. We had both taken creative paths in life but had ended up in jobs that weren’t allowing us to express that creativity. That aligned with us being surrounded by a collective of really talented unique creative minds made up our decision to take the leap and start our own production company. Instead of waiting for a job to land we decided why not go get the jobs and projects ourselves. Being a place that friends or creatives could come to us so we could help them realize those creative ambitions.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think the thing I am the most proud of is the community we have created around our brand at Outer Heaven Creations. The individuals who are part of our team and those artists that continue to trust us with their vision. It hasn’t been an easy journey and it still isn’t easy. We still feel like we have a lot of growing to do and we are excited to see where that growth over the next few years will take us. Starting your own business and brand and trying to make it recognizable as something of quality is definitely difficult and something we are constantly trying to accomplish. What we’ve learned is to really believe in the projects you are working on and work with individuals who you really do vibe with creatively. The quality and passion will come through if you follow those two things. As we continue to grow we want our brand to always reflect that, and the artists we work with to know that when you do work with us you will be working with collaborators that are just as passionate as you are.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
O man, depending on who you asked on the team I’m sure you would get a different answer. I think in a city as diverse as Los Angeles you really need to try and go to all the different areas. The food and vibe changes from city to city and each offers a different experience. Go to the beach, go to the 626, go to a Dodger Game, check out Downtown LA, go for a Hike to the Observatory, the list could go on and on. There’s no shortage of interesting things to see, eat and experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that deserve credit for being supportive. From significant others, to family members, to teachers you passed on their passion for filmmaking, to any viewers of our videos that share a video so others can watch. I could make a list of all those names but really there would be so many so I am sure you know who you are. I know it is vague and maybe feels like a cop-out but really there have been dozens of people who have and continue to support our ambitions at Outer Heaven Creations, and it is not something we will forget.
