We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor that’s made me successful in my respective industry is listening. I was blessed to be raised by a single mother and grandmother and also have a lot of professional mentors growing up. The biggest piece of advice they taught me is that having a good reputation is the biggest weapon a person can have and take you very far in life. If you are a person that people constantly want to be around and work with, then it’s only a matter of time that you will soon be in a position to thrive and pass down successful advice to the next upcoming star or person.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Alex Porter. And I’m an R&B singer, songwriter, and actor. I first started off in the musical industry as a professional drummer playing for some of the biggest names in the gospel, hip hop, and r&b world of music. Then around the age of 19 the late great Whitney Houston herself inspired me to start singing R&B. From that moment I fell in love with the artistry and wave of R&B music and my journey and career has taken off since. As with all journeys, it’s always obstacles and hurdles that get in the way or make things harder in order to become the star that so many people believe you can become. I overcame challenges of disbelief from my family, friends, and close loved ones basically saying I wasn’t going to make it. And that I don’t belong in that world. But I kept going, kept pushing, kept grinding, and God has blessed and opened up so many doors for me. What separates me from any other artist is the passion and love you can feel and hear in my music and gifts. My acting inspires, my writing is elite, and my music heals. My music makes people feel like they can win and keep going. And my music is relatable to everyone. The lessons I’ve learned over the course of this journey is knowing who to trust and not to trust. And listening to those that truly have your best interest at heart. I want the world to know that even tho success comes with many challenges, I’m a witness that can stand here and say, that in order to be successful, you must first learn the art of discipline.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend is actually my managing consultant and acting coach Natasha Makin. If she were to move out of the state or elsewhere and she came back to visit, first place we’d have to go to is a Clippers home game. We are huge Los Angeles Clippers fans! Then we’d have to hit up that restaurant strip in Downtown LA right next door to Staples Center which is the Clippers current arena. Then after we eat we’d have to go hangout at one of the most iconic and legendary celebrity hotels, The W Hotel to listen to some phenomenal live music and perhaps have a drink or two and connect and network with some phenomenal people.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely!! I’d love to shoutout my team!! My music manager Amanda Fernandez, my manager consultant and acting coach Natasha Makin, and my publicist Tae Smith also known as She-Diddy. Without my team I wouldn’t be where I am today. God has blessed me with 3 of the most powerful and hardworking women that any artist or celebrity figure could ask for! My success is a mirror reflection of their hard work. So shoutout to teamAP!!
