We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Andronescu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexander, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The best decision I’ve made that has brought me to where I currently am, is that I chose to challenge fear. Working for yourself can be a scary thought and there’s struggles associated with that which any business owner is all too familiar with. But, fear is debilitating, it tightens the jacket you wear every day and forces you away from opportunities in your career and personal life that may change your world for the better. Running Alex of Arabia, I challenge fear when times were tough, when things don’t go to plan and I have to take calculated leaps of faith constantly. It gets easier to do so, but its never easy. Though, thats what makes life the interesting challenge that it is.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I look at my business today, I’m most proud of how it’s grown and changed over the years. Overcoming challenges is something that everyone starting a business faces. But I don’t think that would have been able to have the control over my personal life that I do without the business that I have. I started Alex of Arabia when I was 20 years old and it was a structure that was helpful to build on as I grew as a person. The lessons that I’ve learned in business really translated to all aspects of my life and made the relationships I have with friends and family stronger as I learned to balance the two. I learned how to express myself and communicate, not to argue, to hear your team out, to care for the people that work with you and other companies that you may do business with. Appreciation goes a long way and on my toughest days, its the care and appreciation that I get from other professionals and those who are close to me that keeps me going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I have friends visit from out of town, I love representing L.A. as a tour guide. I always try to show my guests the best views and the famous diversity of food that Los Angeles has to offer. Sunsets in Santa Monica are a must and the nightlife at the Americana at Brand in Glendale is something everyone should experience. As far as food goes, one of my absolute favorite spots in LA is Same Same, a Thai restaurant and bar in Silverlake. The food there is amazing and I find myself going all too often with my friends.
