We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Forgues and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I don’t think “giving up” is ever the solution, if you truly feel it in your guts that you’re on the right path. I believe that if something is not working out at the moment, maybe just take a step back, reassess and then try again, perhaps from a different angle. Especially in this industry and at the beginning, it takes a lot of patience and letting go. Everything is nos and rejections at first, but I was told once that the career of an actor is not a sprint to the finish line, but more so of a marathon; you’ll get there eventually, you just have to be persistent.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After less than a year of being fully active in the film industry, I am proud to have been a part of a few mini series as a nurse, servant, etc. , I’ve also partaken in student films and short films for independent companies and universities.

I’ve had my fair share of auditioning, in person as well as by self-tapes, and I can say, confidently, that this is not an easy road to take. The constant rejections and radio silence from casting directors can be hard on a new actor, however, you just have to remind yourself that it’s nothing personal. These people are overwhelmed by auditions and it’s not about your work specifically, but just finding the right person for the part; and perhaps you simply didn’t fit the type cast.

I’m a strong believer of sending auditions in and then just forgetting about it, that way you don’t get your hopes up and if you do get it, it’s a nice surprise. I don’t think you ever get used to it though, you just have to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town, we would most likely go to the beach one day, either Huntington or Malibu. I love them because you get just as good of a view, but without the thousands tourists around. We would maybe plan on going for a hike one day. I love going either to Runyon Canyon for something a little more intense or to Point Dume for the gorgeous view; absolutely worth the detour. Being an adrenaline lover, we would definitely have to go to Six Flags for a day as well as explore the amusement parks. We would go to Universal and Disney for the experience, but most importantly for the food. Being a huge foodie as well, we would, without a doubt, want to eat all of the themed snacks around and just try everything.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all, I need to give out most of the credits to my family. My mom, my sister, my dad, my godmother, etc. all of these people have been more then just family in the past few years, they have been the ones to pick me up when I’m down, they’ve believed in me at times I didn’t believe in myself and I could not be more thankful to them for it. I would also love to give a shoutout to my friends I have here in LA who have become like family to me over the last few years and have made my transition from Montreal to Los Angeles such an amazing experience. I have to give them credit for allowing me to flourish in an unfamiliar and foreign environment.
