We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandre Berenger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandre, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a kid I would always find ways to make money. From selling lemonade in front of my father’s bed & breakfast place in France, to buying toys in America when I would go visit and selling them back in France to the kids in my school. The entrepreneur in me was always there. As I got older I realized that I wanted my own business in the restaurant/hospitality industry, I wanted to own business and be my own boss on my own terms. It took a bit of time in my early 20s to even begin the process to that step. But one day I hosted a dinner in my apartment for my friends, I created a raclette dinner spread, which was a family tradition of mine but with a twist. It was reciprocated so well from my friends that a light bulb in my head just went on. I realized at that moment that I want everyone in Southern California to experience what my friends just experienced. And that’s how the business idea of Bonjour Raclette came about.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What truly sets us apart in Southern California is that there is no such food as raclette, and especially not the way we provide it. Bonjour Raclette is a unique French-European dining experience revolves around Raclette melted cheese, grilled meats & seafood and phenomenal homemade sauces! Nobody knows what it is besides a rare few. But as people are taking a chance and trusting me in these dinner experiences, people fall in love with Raclette and fall in love with the experience I provide. We are slowly taking Southern California by storm. Everyone is waiting for an experience like this to arrive. I can’t wait till everyone has tasted these new flavors. Restaurant in the near future and it will be the restaurant everyone will want to go.
I think I’m most proud about, are the people I’ve met doing Bonjour Raclette, I’ve met people from all walks of life and it has been amazing to get to know everyone. I’m truly blessed and grateful to interact with some amazing human beings and to bring joy and create memories for them.
I got to where I am today by actually doing things. A lot of people talk about ideas and things they want to do but never actually do it. I was one of those people honestly… I’ve always had crazy ideas in my head for business or career paths, but never really did anything about it or I just stopped. I think it’s because I never fully had the passion for those ideas. With Bonjour Raclette, the passion is there and I’m not stopping until everyone knows about it. So I suggest for everyone to keep trying, keep pushing until you find something you’re passionate about. It will click one day and your life will change.
As a brand and myself. I want to bring joy and happiness to people. Creating these dining experiences for people is incredible. I love bringing joy through food experiences. But in the future I want to be able to impact people in bigger ways. As Bonjour Raclette grows, the more I would be able to accomplish that. Keep an eye out on us.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Currently one of my favorite restaurants to dine at is ARC in Costa Mesa. The restaurant ambience is incredible, the staff is amazing and the food is phenomenal. From there probably would take them to Laguna Beach to experience the small beach town vibe and the beautiful hidden beaches there. Next I would bring them to sunset cliffs in San Diego, one of my favorite spots to just enjoy the overwhelming view of the ocean. Truly is mesmerizing. Since we would Be in San Diego, I would take them to the best bbq California has to offer which is at Smokin J’s. End the trip there with a night out at gaslamp in San Diego. Now friday comes along, I would bring them to CP restaurant & Lounge. There Kraken Productions has 3 live djs playing incredible music, starts at 9pm all the way to 1am. Great music, incredible people there and the best vibes thanks to Kraken Productions.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people I’ve met and surrounded my self with throughout my life, all play a part in my story.
First and foremost, my father who is a French chef currently in Vietnam. Without him I wouldn’t have the passion for hospitality, it’s in my DNA because of him. My caring mother who’s unconditional love has always propelled me to be a better human in every sense. My step-father, who took me in at a young age and became my father figure for the better. I push myself to be successful because of him. I want to make him proud because he’s done everything for me.
My beautiful girlfriend & best friend. She’s always grounded me, she pushes me to succeed because I want to give her everything the world has to offer. She’s my queen and she deserves the world.
And finally there are two really close friends that inspire me. Randy from Kraken Productions and Erick Escalante from Neon Deluz. I met them before I even had my business idea, but seeing them so passionate and dedicating their time in their craft and seeing them grow to where they are now… really motivates me and inspires me to this day.
