We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Petty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I didn’t think I would ever be doing the work I’m doing now. I always wanted to impact people’s lives in a meaningful way, in a way that matters. I was really into fitness and personal development at the time and people were always asking for help and advice. They were unhappy, out of shape, and stressed with life, parenting, and work. They were seeking quick fixes; they wanted their lives to be better but didn’t understand that you have to find and heal the root of a pattern or problem to create lasting, impactful change. One day during meditation, I received insight that changed my life forever. I saw flashes of visions of myself speaking to large groups of people. People from all over knew who I was; they sought my guidance and listened to what I had to say. At the time, I only saw myself as a stay-at-home mom who always had the answers people needed but never imagined I would be able to reach people in that way. I trusted what I was shown, allowing myself to be intuitively guided even if I didn’t understand how I would reach that level of influence. I started my business, initially offering my services for free so people could learn of all the ways I’m able to help them. Everything unfolded naturally. I told stories of these client sessions, my clients shared their feedback and word spread quickly! My unique ability to find the energetic root of any problem has allowed me to help people all over the world through one-on-one sessions, mentorships, online group workshops, and now, my latest guidebook that walks you through how you can implement some of my teachings for your own healing work. My work has evolved over the last four years, adjusting in ways that feel more authentically aligned and help people in impactful ways. I’m always open to meeting my clients where their needs are.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My clients would tell you that what sets me apart is my inability to sugarcoat the truth. A lot of people in my field tell people what they want to hear or present themselves in a way that is more palatable and that’s not what I’m about. People trust me because of my integrity, something I’m incredibly proud of, and my authenticity. I don’t try to sound like something I’m not. I doubted myself in the early stages of my work because I felt I wasn’t professional enough and I compared myself to other people that I felt were more well-spoken. I’m from the Bronx and I sound like it. People didn’t need me to be more polished, they needed me as I was. They needed someone who could relate to their struggles, someone who had overcome them. Not someone who read something from a book and was just parroting information they learned elsewhere. I learned that my most valuable trait was being exactly who I am, and that is what people love about me.
I think I’m most proud of my growth as a person, as a woman, as a mother. I’m always willing to do the work. The life I live now is only a reflection of the inner work that has been done over the years. I had so much to heal from. I grew up in poverty, experienced an abusive childhood, and was in a destructive marriage for most of my adult life. I was in a very dark place for most of my life. Everything I’d learned had to be undone. I spent years unraveling the person I’d become because I knew I wasn’t my authentic self. I knew that there was another version of me underneath the weight of my experiences. That’s what the work is, clearing the weight and baggage of who you’ve become, who you were made to be in an effort to keep yourself safe. Those experiences create energetic density that becomes blockages within and around us, keeping us blocked, stuck in patterns and cycles we can’t get out of until we address it. There were so many patterns I had to unlearn, so many false beliefs and ideas I had to challenge. They usually require you to go back to the core moment where they originated so you can unlearn it from the root. Everything I’ve learned in my own healing, I’ve been able to apply in my client sessions. I’ve overcome my challenges by facing each one, healing core wounds, and changing core narratives. I take the actual energy from those traumatic experiences and transmute that energy so that it works for you and not against you. This clears up and redirects your energy and your life realigns as a result. The hardest thing you’ll ever have to do is face your truths. I help people do that, and help them find a way out of their own darkness.
Finding the balance between work and mom life while not neglecting myself can sometimes present as a challenge as I am a one-woman show and a single parent. I work around my kids’ schedules and do my best to prioritize my spiritual self-care so that I’m able to fully show up for my kids and my clients. This includes meditation but also clearing my energy, doing the inner work, working out, taking walks, and writing. As women, we’re taught to place everyone else’s needs above our own, to save ourselves for last and take care of our families. This is how we lose our identities and sense of Self. Everyone benefits from a more fulfilled version of you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m big on nature. My kids and I love hiking trails and bodies of water. One of my favorite places to visit is Malibu Creek State Park. I feel like time disappears there, like I’m transported to another time and place. I’m captivated by the mountains and that place just makes me feel grateful to be alive. And if you’re in the valley, Casalena is one of my favorite places for dinner & cocktails, I love their outdoor patio.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My women’s group – the Better Better Bitch Club – has entrusted me with their entire lives, learning from me, implementing my teachings, bearing witness to the many life transformations I’ve experienced over the years, and supporting my every endeavor. These women make my work so worthwhile and I’m continuously so humbled by their endless support and confidence in me.
