We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, how do you think about risk?
I believe risk-taking is necessary in every aspect of our lives. It is truly the key to success no matter what you are trying to pursue. Risks can be big or small and specific for each person of course. I am definitely where I am today because I chose to take risks. The first risk I took was for college. College was always an option for me. I knew I didn’t want to go to a college that was too close to home but at the same time I didn’t want to leave home at all because I was scared to be on my own and away from my family. I also was worried about applying to college because I didn’t have the best GPA and while usually I may let that hinder me because of fear of rejection, I still chose to take a risk and put myself out there and ended up getting accepted into The Howard University. This really helped shape my not knowing until you try mentality.

The next big and most important risk for me came after college. My goal was always to move to LA after school. If you know me you know I am very goal oriented, I go after any and everything that I want. If I say I’m going to do it then I usually end up doing it. It can be as simple as buying a car. However, moving to LA was one goal I really had to gamble on. Taking risk involves confidence, you have to believe in yourself. You have to believe that you can do anything you put your mind to. So when it came down to moving like anyone else I was worried about the what ifs. “What if everything doesn’t go as planned? What if I don’t make it? What if I run out of money? What if, What if, What if.” I knew the future I saw for myself and I knew what I had to do to get there. So, it really required taking a leap of faith. I also find it harder to move somewhere after going back home and getting comfortable after school and because I was offered an internship in LA this was my perfect opportunity to stay out there, get an apartment and never look back. And I did just that. Having to move across the country away from family on my own for the first time was the scariest thing ever. Update, it’s been 3 years and that was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. I’m in my desired field working towards my goals and I have a wonderful friend group to help keep me grounded and I just know this wouldn’t have been possible if I chose not to move.

I know a lot of people come across this choice at some point in their life. Whether it’s wanting to get away, try something new, or start fresh. I’m here to say take that leap of faith! Take the job, Move etc! You will not regret it. Taking risks are a part of our journey. I’m still taking risks everyday. I take risks in my career, I take risks with my own personal growth and development. I’m always trying something new and putting myself out there. My current risk that I’ve been taking this year has been on tiktok. Did yall know that posting a tiktok video can be scary? Follow me @Lexb4reelofficial.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am reality television and film producer/director. I was one of the producers on the masked singer, Joe millionaire and Domino Masters and I recently just produced my own short film and I’m currently working on my next project. My goal is to continue producing women dominated films and to continue working on reality shows. This has always been my dream and I’m just so happy that I finally stop letting fear get in my way. Its not easy getting out of your head and accomplishing your goals but I overcame those challenges by always remembering that I am my biggest fan and when I stay true to myself and remember my purpose then I can literally do any and everything I am set out to do. Believe in yourself always sounded cliche to me but that is truly the biggest lesson I learned while pursuing my endeavors. If you dont believe in yourself no one will. Nothing is impossible. I tell myself everyday that I can do it. I can write my own films. I can produce it. I can act in them. I can work on shows. I can attain my luxury lifestyle. I can have a social life and still get work done. I can get my summer body. I can do it all! I take it one step at a time but I am doing just that. I honestly just stopped doubting myself and been rocking it ever since. You’ll probably be seeing Alexis Powell everywhere in the next 5 years. Mark my words.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay if my best friend was visiting we would have to do some tourist attractions mixed with some partying and a lot of shopping.

Monday we can grab some boba and drive through Beverly Hills and rodeo to shop and be tourist.
Tuesday is great for a taco Tuesday. We can go to Cabo cantina on Hollywood Blvd. The drinks are great to me and I love their tacos and there’s entertainment all on the blvd. We can walk around after to see some of the stars.
Wednesday we could go see some Kobe and Nipsey murals during the day and then grab some lunch at mama’s shelter and head to the highlight room at night because Wednesday nights are always bussin.
Thursday we can go to the grove during the day and shop and then at night head to the association downtown to party.
Friday we can grab breakfast at kitchen 24 on Santa Monica blvd and then go to melrose and do some more shopping
Saturday we can go get some soul food from Dulans soul food and then head to Santa Monica beach and eat and relax and walk down to the pier.
Sunday we can go for a hike at runyun canyon and see the hollywood sign and have happy hour at Dublins downtown the food and drinks are amazing.
