We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexus Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexus, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?

My favorite quotes are: Nehemiah Davis “It has to work because it has to work”, “It’s either excuses or results, you can’t have both”

Jessica Dupart “Stop letting people tell you your ideas are crazy or even stop you from bringing your ideas to reality. Your higher energy gave that idea to you, FOR YOU, not for anyone else to validate it FOR YOU, STOP looking for validation, YOU ARE YOUR VALIDATION”

I say these same three quotes to myself as my daily affirmations. They are extremely powerful quotes and have been relatable in my life. In my past, I would long for the validation of my ideas from others and most-times I wouldn’t get it. Not having the validation, I craved that I thought was needed greatly discouraged me in the very beginning of my entrepreneurial journey.

 It wasn’t until I purchased “When the miracle drops” book and the Mindset over Skill Set audio by Nehemiah Davis; that I began to change my mindset and my level of confidence as a woman/ entrepreneur. Jessica Dupart, also known as “ DA REAL BB JUDY” stated that quote while on tour in ATL. When I heard her speak those words it felt as if she was speaking directly to me. Every time I would share my ideas with those that were around me; hoping that they would see my vision and give me some encouraging words, the feedback that I received was almost always negative.

As I began to listen to the encouraging words of those who were as successful as I wanted to be, I then realized that I no longer needed validation from anyone. I then began to thrive in my business. I became confident, consistent, and accountable with myself and my ideas. One “crazy” idea that people said I had, was my brand song “She Cooks” by Gio. I stepped out on faith, had an idea, found an artist after 18 months and I’m thankful that I did not give up despite all the negativity I endured during the creation process. The track did extremely well on music platforms. I received over 2 thousand plays in one year combined on all music platforms and that was with minimal self-marketing. I am so happy that I gained the confidence that I needed so that today I can say that I am the first passionate cook to have a song promoting her BRAND and FOOD. “It has to happen because it has to happen” this affirmation reminds me that anything is possible. No matter the experience it may entail, excuses don’t make results. It’s one or the other, can’t have both. God gave that idea to you for you, and he gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

BossnFlavors is a rising multi-billion dollar brand. There’s a lot I can share with the Shout-Out LA community. Where do I start… Well, my passion all started late 2014 early 2015; I would cook and take my lunch for work. My co-workers were always impressed by just the aroma from Lexx Flavors. I’ll touch a little on Lexx Flavors background and timeline later in this article.

Cooking for work is what started what we call “Motion” at work. I would do luncheon learns, parties for my friends and their families and eventually family dinners too. I started making pretty good money doing something that I began to love. Doing so, motivated me to create ideas to promote my passion for cooking. I began thinking about how I would perform on my favorite cooking show “Guys Grocery Games”, how well I would do on Hell’s Kitchen and the list goes on.

I was introduced to tons of amazing foods from different cultures. young working in the dental field. This really set the bar high for my taste buds and selection of food. Cooking is an art from the flavors to the presentation of the meal on the plate, it’s all art and creativity. We eat with our eyes first so it must be visibly creative. BossnFlavors being low sodium and still full of flavors sets my brand completely aside. The herbs used, like saffron which increases the level of serotonin in our bodies (serotonin modulates moods, cognition, learning and memory), Turmeric which helps reduce inflammation, the massive amount of fresh squeezed lemon (I squeeze lemon on almost everything for flavor enhancement) that’s used makes my brand’s flavor profile extraordinarily unique. I spread my vibes, my energy and as much love as possible from my heart into every dish that I touch. When you cook with love it just tastes so much better. I am creating greatness through healthy all natural flavors. I would like to add that lemon is a great antioxidant and can help prevent kidney stones from forming.

Being a former dental professional, I highly promote good dental health and this same herb promotes good dental health. My flavors are “make you happy flavors” they make you feel so good that the flavor is unforgettable, one fresh lemon squeeze at a time please! I also remember my former boss inviting me and a friend of mine to a cookout and they had cilantro in almost every dish they prepared. They’re Brazilian and their flavor profile was out of this world amazing. Cilantro has since been my favorite.

While cooking with these amazing healthy ingredients, it creates a vibe that is almost contagious. This vibe for me is singing, dancing, and having a good time doing what I love the most; that’s complimenting tastebuds and balancing flavors. This allows me to connect my brand with versatile artists on every stage in the music industry and influencers as well.

Here’s a little timeline and background:

At the age of 15/16 my stepfather told me I couldn’t cook and he took over cooking. He said, “you’re not burning your mother’s house down”. Well, I went into the dental field, I thought I knew what my goals were after high school, and I will tell you that BossnFlavors was not in the plan.

Shortly after, I moved out and ate out most of the time. I later found myself in a relationship where I moved into his mother’s basement and that’s when I would attempt to make my own dinner and even to grocery shopping on my own. I remember hearing that little voice in the back of my head saying, “don’t burn down this lady kitchen”. I wasn’t confident at all. I began to help his family cook for gatherings, grocery shopping etc. I always remembered basic techniques from my mother and Grandmother.

Our relationship ran its course. At the age then, I was 19/20 years old, single and living alone in my own place. I found a new love for wine, vibes and being creative in the kitchen.

Thanksgiving 2017, I made an Instagram account and started creating content. I then had many ideas of how I can grow with this brand. I shortly after was introduced to an influencer in my city and from there it was an amazing journey. I stuck to promotional advertising to build my audience, did tons of pop-ups and much more.

Over the years, I figured I’d make my own seasoning. Not as soon as I did. However, the demand from a customer caused me to create and release my seasoning collection. The Taste of BossnFlavors is my very own salt free seasoning collection with an herb that has anti-inflammatory properties, treats skin related issues and cures indigestion. It stabilizes serotonin level in our bodies and many more great benefits. It’s salt free due to having a grandmother that has had High Blood Pressure for as long as I can remember. I knew I wanted a seasoning that she could use without her blood pressure rising and to be completely transparent I CAN NOT COOK WITH SALT. My known paternal DNA is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana; so, I can cook and make it taste SO GOOD The Cajun Flavor Way “She Cooks by Gio”. I KNOW FLAVORS BABY!

My grandmother found out about my entrepreneurial journey and quickly encouraged me to instead focus on my children only. She did not see my vision considering, she catered in her earlier years of living and didn’t see the money she should’ve been seeing when she was catering. I always told her children either hold you up or motivate you to thrive in your greatness. I will not let my children cause me to be stagnant. I still have dreams and goals to conquer and later will have to create a foundation where their dreams and goals can be conquered as well.

I went from 78 followers to 10k followers and a monetized account with a 38.9k reached

Accounts in less than 4 years. I’ve shipped frozen ready-to-heat meals all around the world and have had great feedback. I’ve traveled to ATL for the first time for a pop up from network connections I made on Club- House. There’s always room for improvement as a developing entrepreneur, however I am truly proud of what we’ve accomplished thus far just from the power of Networking. From the brand song” She Cooks by Gio”, to cooking for Reemarkable Eazy-E daughter, connecting with Florina from Bad Girls Club, Jacob Berger from mall cop, Rolling Ray and even more amazing creators. I’ve also recently had my seasoning released in a food market located at Elmira Grocery Market 4401 Elmira Street SW Washington, DC 20032.

I am perpetually grateful for my accomplishments. I’ve learned a lot on this journey. The last four years have been very interesting. It can be great moments but oftentimes it’s not the best and very trying. I’ve sacrificed a lot, even my mental health at times. There has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears put into the making of this brand. I’ve traveled all around the world, attended many vendor events, and most times I had no help at all, or the help would back out on me.

One thing I want the world to know is that I NEVER IMAGINED BEING A CHEF. I didn’t enjoy cooking only because I was discouraged. I had no one close to me that inspired me to be an entrepreneur. My entire family, apart from an uncle; are all 9-5 workers. They don’t truly understand building something from nothing and thriving in it. I could’ve done anything, like open a dental hygienist clinic, I chose something that grew on me that was something I just had to do to stop eating out and grew to love doing it so much and making people extremely happy doing so. My love language is GIVING. I love to give and make those I allow access to me HAPPY! With food, I can accomplish both by giving good flavors that will make you happy.

I’m saying all of this to say that I had no blueprint. I had distractions, opportunists, and naysayers all trying to dim my light. I didn’t know what I was doing, however, as you see I have a lot of credibility in my brand. I stayed consistent even when I felt discouraged. I remain confident and consistent. I read my reviews to uplift my spirit and confidence, when I feel I need that extra validation from my real supporters. I look at pictures of past events in order to remember where I’ve come from.

The big picture for me is my 3 children. They motivate and inspire me to aim higher. They watch my every move; they study my every move. Sometimes I would find them playing like they are at a restaurant and on their menu would be a few of my classics.

I’m teaching my babies to be confident, to believe in their dreams all while I build a brand. They are constantly listening to affirmations, motivational and how to build business, credit and anything entrepreneurial content with me. God took his time creating me and he hast truly blessed me abundantly.

I have learned that no matter what “it has to happen because it has to happen” and nobody cares about what you’re building until your empire is already built. LEEP THRIVING! I’ve learned not to expect support and to remember that people only treat you how you allow them to. GROW AND GLOW

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out first my higher energy. Thank you for guiding me protecting me and giving me the strength to wake up and aim higher. My supporters of course I really couldn’t make it without the genuine support from all of you.
