We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Meskin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tori, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Providing value! Eight years ago, when I started my career as a nurse, there were limited to no examples of the person I am as a person. My journey into healthcare wasn’t easy and I did not have access to someone to help me navigate this crazy world. When I started my blog, social media outlets, and podcast I have always focused on bringing value to my community. Providing access to conversations, topics, specialties, and hear (the #realtea) behind a person of interest’s journey has become my biggest passion. Creating The Cellfie Show Podcast (cellfiepodcast.com) was a way for me to give back, provide someone else the opportunity to explore new topics through the lens of a guest. Creating the blog (www.tipsfromtori.com) has been the most rewarding experience in terms of helping future nurses land their jobs, gain insight into the messy healthcare world. and what it is like to be a NICU nurse. Maintaining value as my guiding light has been the biggest piece to my success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Was it hard to become a nurse? Yes! It was hard. (for me) Point blank, No sugar on top. It was the hardest thing I have had to do in my career. I struggled to get into nursing school and also throughout my nursing school journey. I have been very open about this via Instagram, Podcast & bringing it all here as well. My journey to becoming a nurse was difficult. I was NOT an “A” student. I struggled in school. But I knew NURSING was my calling! How did I make that happen? I PUT THE BLINDERS ON AND PUSHED THROUGH WITH GRIT, BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS (LITERALLY). And I am here to tell you, the hustle was worth it! I sacrificed, missed family & friend events, even missed holidays to study or catch up on Nursing school projects! However, I have now been a nurse for 6 years & starting my side gig “Blogging!” I am so thankful for the hard journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my gosh, we have to head to Big Sur! Where the mountains meet the sea. It is the most beautiful, rugged, mountain section of Central Coast California where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise from the Pacific Ocean. Think, dramatic scenery, pine trees, cliff sides, ocean views, etc. We can stay at Ventana a luxurious oasis of peace where we disconnect, recharge and get creative juices going. It is nestled within the forests of California and surrounded by the blues of the ocean and sky. We can get a massage, layout overlooking the ocean, have a nice dinner, and take in the natural surroundings. We also have to eat at Nepenthe! It is an iconic restaurant settled into the cliffside of Big Sur overlooking the ocean. The views are spectacular and we can enjoy some cocktails and appetizers watching the sunset. Later we can take a drive up the coast and visit some local towns, do some site seeing of the central coast and enjoy our time unplugged!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In terms of someone who has had the biggest effect on my brand-building, podcast production, and social media content, by far my biggest inspiration is Lauryn Bosstick from The Skinny Confidential and Him & Her Show. Lauryn BIGGEST shout-out ever! She is an example of a true community builder, branding expert, podcast host, and overall someone I look up to in the highest degree. She (and her husband) have changed my life in terms of going for it, putting the blinders on, and pushing through hardships to break ceilings. Huge shout out to you Lauryn! XO
Secondly, my husband, support system, true partner in life. He is my grounding energy, the person who stands by me through every piece of my crazy nurse profession, social media adventures, and podcast production. I am so thankful for such a confident, supportive, adoring partner in life.
