We had the good fortune of connecting with Ali Handal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ali, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I continue learning how to become better at all aspects of my art and my business, and I never give up.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a singer-songwriter, lead guitarist, recording artist and entrepreneur. I’ve released four albums and a slew of singles, and am most excited that today, my guitar and songwriting skills are stronger than ever. I’m also thrilled to have a thriving community of fans supporting my art through my fan club “Backstage With Ali.” Additionally, in 2006 I co-founded the music licensing company Triple Scoop Music. We’re now the leading music licensing service for a wide range of clients around the world, including photographers, videographers, filmmakers, small businesses and Fortune 500 companies. Our clients and partners include Apple, Adobe, Nikon, Sony, TED, Harley Davidson and more. It’s been extremely challenging to get where I am today, but I overcome challenges by experimenting with different approaches to moving forward, and I never give up. Also incredibly important is surrounding myself with “can do” people who are hard working and full of integrity. Money is never the #1 motivator ~ it’s a very important “measuring stick,” but my main motivator in life is a passion for making music & empowering my fellow musicians. My motto in life (and the name of one of my songs) is: You Get What You Settle For (many thanks to the film “Thelma & Louise” for first exposing me to this principle!). If you continue to strive and never “settle,” you can continue to work towards your goals and have amazing experiences along the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t “hang out” much outside of my home (especially these days!). When I’m not working, I’m practicing guitar in my “Lady Loft” or relaxing with my husband & cats. 🙂 My favorite people in the city are my fellow creatives, so my favorite thing to do is get together with them in their homes & studios to write songs, play music, and talk about life. That being said, I’d probably spend a day or evening at the beach north of Malibu, enjoying the sea air and the vistas, maybe grab some fish tacos on Highway 1 and people-watch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Andrew Goldenhersh. Being a fellow creative, he has encouraged and supported me through the many twists, turns, ups and downs of my life as an artist and business owner. He unfailingly encourages me to follow my heart, and helps me find my own way to live a life that many only dream of.
