We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Oshinomi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alison, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Constancy to purpose.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Chiropractic (in Greek chiros and praktikos means “done by hand”) is based on the premise that the body is a self-healing organism. The central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) is the master system controlling and coordinating every function of the body, and communicates with every muscle, organ and cell. When subluxations are present, the body is unable to function at its optimal level to obtain its greatest healing potential i.e. dis-ease processes will occur.
The spine consists of 24 moveable bones called vertebrae. Between these vertebrae lie the discs. Disc derangement causing improper motion of the vertebra leads to a disruption in the nervous system deterring the body from functioning at its optimal capacity. Even the most minimal amount of interference in that communication from the brain to the cell will cause dis-ease. This derangement is called a subluxation.
What sets a Gonstead Chiropractor apart is the meticulous analysis to find the subluxation causing the imbalance in health and the biomechanically safe adjustment used to remove it. Gonstead is not a common system of chiropractic due to the difficulty and years of training it takes to learn. I continue to study the system because simply put there is no better purpose than service. There is no greater joy than to watch someone regain health and understand what it means to be well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A loaded question! I would start off with a fantastic Americano from Caffe Luxxe or Alfred’s, brunch in Manhattan Beach and an afternoon sitting in the gardens and enjoying the view from The Getty. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am lucky to have had so many great teachers, coaches and mentors, but a couple stand out. Dr. Po Pomajzl, a Gonstead Seminar staff doctor and chiropractor practicing in Grand Island, NE, changed the trajectory of my path. My life’s work in serving as a Gonstead Chiropractor changed after our interaction and receiving my first Gonstead adjustment 16 years ago at a seminar in San Francisco. Dr. Rahim Salehmohamed of Gonstead Wellness has impacted not only my practice and how I serve but also my personal growth and self-actualization. Two things that are very necessary when serving others and defining my purpose. I am deeply grateful for their mentorship, kindness and encouragement throughout the years.
