We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Davidson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, what do you attribute your success to?
From the beginning I have built my business around authenticity. Photography is an extension of myself, my creative voice. I always stay true to my expression, whether it be in my brand, my messaging, communication with clients, the look and feel of the photos. I focus less on what other photographers are doing and instead operate in a way that feels right to me. I also find that when I am authentic, my clients trust me and are able to be themselves in front of the camera. As a result, we are able to create beautiful images that tell their story.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I became camera-obsessed after experiencing some of the most significant moments of my life. As a 30-something year-old woman, I’ve built an amazing life with my husband and children – and document it every step of the way. With my camera I like to pause the whirlwind of our lives and commemorate the raw, unfiltered moments I never want to forget. I capture the moments that highlight our love for one another, our unique relationships, and moments that can never be replicated.

Photography has always been a natural extension of me, a way for me to express myself. Do you ever find yourself in a moment where you pause and think to yourself, “This is a moment I will always remember”? Those are the times I would take out my camera so I could have a visual representation of my favorite memories.

Making my passion into a full-time business had its challenges, but nevertheless seemed to happen in a very organic way. Photographing my kids at home turned into documenting my friend’s big moments. As my business grows, I make sure that it continues to represent who I am as an artist and above all else, bring me joy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a runner – so assuming they were on board, I would take them for an early jog along the American River Bike Trail. We would finish at Bella Bru Café for coffee and brunch. Later, we would go check out the Midtown Farmer’s Market for the local creators, fresh produce, and live music. We would meet some friends for happy hour at Zocalo, a delicious mexican restaurant. We would finish the night going to Concert in the Park to enjoy live music.

If you couldn’t tell, I enjoy fresh air, exercise, good food, and I like to have a good time! I’m relatively low key and like to do activities that allow me to visit with others and explore the outdoors.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to specifically recognize my two favorite muses, my beautiful daughters. May we all strive to live life so intentionally and appreciate the small things.
