We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, is there something you believe many others might not?
“Less is more”
I think more allows you to break boundaries and push your art to levels that you’ve never been to before. All of my heroes are artists the “less is more” community would probably dislike and I think they’re the coolest for that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There’s nothing I love more than photography and I think I would choose it in every life. The experience is special for me and really driven by wanting to connect to people and share a space for ideas to come to life.

I got to where I am now by really working hard everyday to become better. I’ve talked to a few creatives and we all agree that the best way to do so is to accept our inner critic and listen to it sometimes. If we didn’t have a critic we would be complacent in where we are and we would never grow as artists.

I’ve learned that patience is a virtue through everything. Sometimes your dreams are being thought of too fast in your head for the current state of your career to catch up but you get there eventually if it’s what you work towards.

None of it is really easy on paper but since there’s so much love and dedication poured into every adjustment and shutter click it’s just the right thing to do.

I would really want the world to never give up on being a kid with a dream. To be creative is to have a spirit that not many will understand but if you do, you know what you want to do and you know how to get there, that’s all that matters.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite places are events ran by creatives, lowrider shows, or flea market going on during weekends! I always tell everyone to get a tooth gem from Outstruct events and markets in town lol.

Also if you don’t hit the beach after at like 2/3am with some tacos you’re really missing out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A huge thank you to Patricia Morales and Playtoyofficial. They mentored and guided me through moments that have inspired me and my art for life. They’re a huge light for me and are the realest to ever do it!

As well as every beautiful person who has trusted me and my lens to capture them and bring their idea to life. I am so grateful for every single shoot.

I would also like to recognize my beautiful friends @eyebballedd and @dinnydindindin who came into my life recently to show me how amazing life can be through photography and community. They have been a huge support system through all of my recent success. I would be in a very different space without the two geniuses that they are.
