We had the good fortune of connecting with Alonia “DJ LaLa Land” Walton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alonia “DJ LaLa Land”, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor(s) behind my success are the connections I’ve made with past clients and more so fellow DeeJay’s. Staying connected and creating genuine relationships have brought many opportunities with corporations, celebrities and huge venues. Supporting others is a major factor for myself personally and a piece of advice I give to others. It’s a lonely world out there and it takes a village. Do to others as you’d want them to do to you.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a professional DJ going on 10 years in January. I learned basic skills after attending SCRATCH DJ Academy in Los Angeles. I play everything from Hip Hop, EDM, World Music, Remixes, Old School, Country, Top 40, etc. Complete open format depending on the client. I’m most proud of the opportunity I was given to be a Radio Free 102.3 KJLH DJ on live air. It was always a dream to be on radio. I’m most excited about The Ladies Room, a virtual event I started during the pandemic, showcasing my fellow women DJs from all over. I look forward to growing that into something more than just DJs. I’m also excited about a new radio show I’ll be co-hosting soon (can’t give out the deets just yet). The success of DJ LaLa Land started with the friendships and connections I made with other DJs. Word of mouth on my skills and gaining clients from events I would do as well. It felt like a domino effect. The first year I was doing a lot of celebrity events. I used to be so nervous and feel out of place. The journey of my career in the beginning wasn’t easy at all. This was a male dominated industry back then and respect wasn’t always shown, especially because I was a woman. It would be discouraging yet fuel to my fire to show out and play with everything I had. I love being underestimated! Over the years I’ve learned to stop comparing myself to others success and move at Gods speed. Once I did that and trusted the process I’ve had the opportunity to DJ for artist in concerts. DJ in other states, I’m apart of the Core DJ’s Worldwide and I have a name in LA which isn’t easy when there’s 1000’s of DJ’s in that county alone. I work hard for every opportunity presented. My motivation is my daughter Sariyah (RIP mama’s baby). I almost gave up everything after I lost her but with my village of loved ones support I decided to push forward and continue as if she was here. I want to encourage both men and women who have dreams, careers and/or goals to never give up, even when life throws you curve balls. It’s all apart of your plan. What’s meant for you is for you. Nothing and no one can change that. Believe in yourselves and surround yourselves with like minded individuals who help feed you mentally, spiritually and emotionally. You got this!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my Uncle Danny aka DJ Balance.
