We had the good fortune of connecting with Alonis Ingram and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alonis, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for the collective was birthed from her experience with helping a friend prepare to launch her online business. While thinking about ways to market and advertise her friends products, Alonis had an idea to create an online event for her friend to showcase her business. While working on that project her ideas began to expand beyond just her friends business and she began thinking about all of the other businesses she had heard about on campus. That’s when it clicked, we needed a space where all of the Skegee-preneuer businesses could be found, something like a visual directory that could be accessed by anyone, anywhere, anytime. That is how the collective was born and how the flavor Skegee was shared with the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Skegee Collective is a visual business directory and networking organization founded in Murrieta, California. This virtual space is created for business owners who are students or alumni of Tuskegee University and hosted across most social media platforms. Hopefully, one day we will be able to partner up with other HBCU’s and continue the journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my friends were to come down for a visit, I would give them the ultimate Tuskegee experience. Filled with stroll offs on the yard, to soul food from the Yellow Store, and end the day relaxing at the Tuskegee Lake.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would like to shout out my mother, she helped me start the collective and got it to where it is now. I would also like to shoutout to all the small business owners that are in the Collective, because they are the ones who I do this for and for them to give me a chance to showcase them is an honor.
