We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Fang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being an independent artist, I love the process of how I make music. In the process i can communicate with myself more, express my emotions and say what i want to say in my songs. At that time, i can really be myself, and temporarily forget the worries and just focus on my music in my own world. By being creative in my music I can always give myself more challenges and freedom. I can try something different to break the normal, and knowing what i am going to do, makes it more better. It always opens up my mind to the horizon and helps me to see how big music actually is! So, that’s the reason why i’m doing what I am doing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My first EP <Superhero >, is from my real story. The leading song call “Superhero”, it talks about the cyberbullying that I suffered in my life.
In this generation, the real life is getting started along with the internet. So it is important that we start paying attention to the cyber bullying issue to take care of those victims.
In my life, some people did not like me , some people did not like my personality. But, i always tell myself “This is your life! If you think you’re doing it right, then don’t be afraid, you just follow your mind ! When this cyber bullying happened on me, honestly, I felt completely frustrated and hopeless in the beginning . Then one day, I felt like my life was just going day after day with me not being happy with myself. That time, I realized that I lost myself and forgot WHO I WAS! So, i traveled to the other country, focusing on the people who really love and cares of me. Then I started to find myself, to know what’s most important in my life and started doing my favorite things. Then, when this song was finally done I told myself, Yes! I‘m back !
After that, i know the haters are gonna hate, and I stopped thinking about them before starting to write the words .So that I don’t have to listen to their meaningless comments and limit myself to follow rules anymore. Although this story happened on me, I am still thankful i got this experience and a tough time, because i can now try to help people like that. I wish that everyone should overcome their hard times, no matter what other people say or how hard life gets. And i always believe everyone has a stronger and powerful “superhero “in their heart, and i wants my listeners to find their hero who is really inside them and through this song, become brave and really be themselves.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend visiting the area, i will take them to my favorite place- Venice beach, we can do surfing, sunbathing and shop in the local stores. We can chill all day long and see the beautiful sunset, enjoy the weather and the view. We can walk around the canals to see lots of beautiful buildings and then drink some beer at night. In the weekend, i will bring them to the farmer market on Sunset Rd. in the mornings, take them to taste the local organic fruits, then hang out at the Melrose Trading Post to enjoy the second hand market. At night, we must check out the San Gabriel Canyon Road, the best night view i have ever seen. If we are lucky, we can see the shooting star in the sky, that’s the best place i always put into my travel list and strongly recommend to my friend! In fact, LA is a pretty, multicultural city. The weather is really comfortable and the places are full of fun. I will say, slow your steps and enjoy every single moment because “relaxing “is the best tempo in LA !
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course! A huge thanks and shout-out to my music producer- Katsuya Sezaki. He is so talented that he brought so much depth into my music. I just told him what musical style that I am going for and the feeling that I want in my song. He understood exactly through my story, my feelings and gave me the right sound in the arrangement. He is so incredible and i appreciate all that he has done. It was an awesome experience!
Other people that I am really grateful for are ,My parents. Even though they weren’t fully in on me wanting to become an artist in the beginning, they supported me when they realized this is what I am meant to do. They were worried about my future, because they know how hard it must be to be an artist in this day and age! They’re still supporting me to do what i like by giving me a great life.
