We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Huang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?

I’ve always been an artistic and creative person. I’ve only ever pursued creative projects, and my friends, family and network all know me as a creative. It’s my comfort zone, it’s my identity. I can’t picture myself doing anything else. As a child, I was always creating “something”, whether it was painting, pottery or cooking. I later went to an arts high school, specializing in visual arts, and then I pursued my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ryerson University.

Creativity and cooking always go hand-in-hand. I started cooking from a young age, and then worked at a recreational cooking school in Toronto for 9 years. I used to volunteer at the L.A Kitchen and Share-A-Meal in L.A, and traveled to several countries to learn more about cooking and cuisine. I also learned how to cook from my grandmother, who was a former chef and restaurateur.

I now run my own venture called Earth Made Kitchen, where I teach cooking classes and offer food services. I’ve taught classes online and in-person, and have done small-scale catering and meal deliveries.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Earth Made Kitchen in 2019, a small food business that offers virtual and in-person cooking classes, as well as food services. Our mission is to teach and introduce people to simple, wholesome, diverse, and delicious food through our classes and food services.

For our cooking classes, we focus on using as many simple ingredients as possible that are easily accessible in grocery stores. We teach a variety of classes in-person and virtually – from corporate team building classes to summer camps, holiday classes and more. You can find our classes on Eventbrite. For our food services, we are currently based in Toronto. We offer personal/private chef services, small-scale catering and meal deliveries. Our wholesome dishes are a mix between Farm-to-Table and New American cuisine, and we use a variety of both local and international ingredients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I’m currently in Toronto, but I used to go back and forth between LA and Toronto. Here are some of my favorite spots in LA:

Since I am a major foodie, I would bring my friends to:

– Republique
– Carmela Ice Cream
– Felix
– Any Mexican restaurant
– The Butcher’s Daughter
– 626 Night Market

Aside from food, I would also take them to Santa Monica Beach, Little Tokyo, hiking in Malibu, and Disneyland!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to anyone that has supported Earth Made Kitchen throughout the years. My good friend, Charity Prado (founder of SheCatalysts) helped me navigate the world of entrepreneurship, and was my first guinea pig with my venture. I greatly appreciate anyone that has attended an Earth Made Kitchen class, all my partners and the chefs I’ve worked with throughout the years.
