We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Massi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Being self employed sometimes you can get lost in marking your progress or not give yourself credit for the progress you’ve made. Having a flexible routine and a list of goals every 3 months helps to keep my styling business moving forward each year. No matter how busy I am everyday I create time to do 2 hours of client outreach and 2 hours of follow up every other day. The routine keeps the months booked and provides exposure to more opportunities for new clients.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel very thankful to have known at a young age what I wanted to do professionally. The road wasn’t and still isn’t easy but at least I started early because I knew what I wanted to become. I shop for a living and am so blessed to do this! I style both celebrities and non-celebrities. At heart I’m a total maximalist however I am a client focused stylist who doesn’t push only one stylistic agenda. I don’t want all my clients to look the same. I love learning what their message is to the world and bring that out in the looks I curate.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
MotherWolf – THE best Italian restaurant in LA! I am totally obsessed and go there once a week For shopping I love Des Kohan, Roi, Curve and H.Lorenzo
The Getty Museum in Malibu is always a great way to spend a Saturday and then head to Malibu Farms for a late lunch or early dinner

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Starting my styling business 9 years ago I truly did everything 100% by myself. To this day I wish I had the luxury of having a mentor to go to for advice and guidance but that wasn’t the case for me. All doors I pushed open on my own and through many failures figured out a system that works. In time, my loyal clients started to refer me to their network. Client referrals are essential to my styling business and it took many years to get those trusted referrals. I will always be thankful and appreciative of word of mouth marketing from my clients.
