We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Massi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
There are several reasons why I choose to pursue a creative career as a wardrobe stylist for both private clients and celebrities. I’ll highlight my top 3:

1. Love for Fashion: Since I was a kid I naturally gravitated to fashion magazines, bought books about fashion designers and wanted to design my own clothing for the Barbies I had (especially My Size Barbie – remember her?!) I feel so blessed to have known at such a young age what I wanted to do in life. Style is something that is within you that you hone in on, continually improve your craft and overcome challenges to evolve your perspective.

2. Helping others look and feel their best: I work closely with both my private clients as well as celebrities to help them discover their signature style. Being able to truly and sincerely get to know on a deep level a large variety of people from all over the world is fascinating to me. I love hearing everyones personal story! On the surface my job is all about clothing, shoes and accessories but I see it as presenting my clients true inner self. What you’re wearing speaks before you get the chance too. I find immense satisfaction in having the ability and skills to craft my clients non-verbal communication with their looks.

3. Variety and creativity: Wardrobe styling is a dynamic and ever-changing field that offers a lot of variety and opportunities for creativity. I don’t work well with routine and thrive with constant change. I love that by working on a wide range of projects, from fashion editorials, music videos, red carpet, film and personal shopping gives me the opportunity to collaborate with so many creative professionals.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a personal and celebrity stylist, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, from simple projects like updating an individual’s closet to high-profile celebrities attending red carpet events. What sets me apart from others is my maximalist aesthetic and I’m rentless. I take great pride in my ability to create signature looks for people from all walks of life and from all over the world! Whether I am working with a private client on revamping their wardrobe or collaborating with a celebrity on a high-profile event, my sole purpose is to bring my clients vision to life.

One of the things I am most excited about in my work as a stylist is the opportunity to collaborate with talented artists and creatives in the industry. Working on photoshoots, music videos, film and attending fashion events allows me to constantly push the boundaries of my creativity and stay up-to-date on the latest of lastest.

What I want the world to know is that I am wholeheartedly dedicated to my clients. Fashion is the breath to my life and I’m not trying to sound dramatic even though that’s pretty dramatic. I believe that fashion shows us as humans our history and shines a light in the direction of our future. Fashion and style is a powerful form of self-expression as an individual and collectivity.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So let me start with a little backstory before I start name dropping ; )

I’ve been a Personal Stylist to high profile/high net worth private clients for over a decade now starting off my career in San Francisco. Over the years I have expanded to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Austin, Dallas, New York, London and Dubai. In 2018 I moved to Los Angeles because my Instagram @MassiStyles was landing me a ton of work there for fashion editorials and music artists. I really love the 50/50 business spilt between private clients and celebrities. The journey to building a celebrity clientele was much more challenging so I like to recognize a moment of mentorship from Zanna Rassi because the best lessons are learned the hard way.

In 2012 I landed an internship in New York with Zanna Rassi, Senior Fashion Editor at Marie Claire Magazine. The very first day of the internship I was told by the previous intern the wrong location to be at (TBH I think she did that on purpose) because when I asked her what type of attire is best for the office she replied, “You’ll see when you get there.” Sooo… I wore high heels and a Burberry skirt thinking I’d be in the office sorting wardrobe all day. When I entered ‘The Closet’, the space where the interns sort a sea of fashion, the Closet Manager scaled me with an icy look and said, “You’re in the wrong place. You need to be at Milk Studios. You’re late.” Notice I’m not using an ‘!’ after ‘You’re late’ to emphasize her dry tone in what is an urgent matter. I didn’t say a word and rushed out of the massive Hearst building and threw myself in front of the first cab I saw on 58th. On the very first day of my internship that wasn’t off to a get good start before I walked through the heavy metal doors to set, I took a moment to compose myself. When I opened the doors it was everything I dreamed fashion to be. On the very first day of my internship, the very first fashion project I’ve ever seen let alone assist on was the Victoria Secret Christmas campaign styled by Rassi. Wearing heels was definitely a mistake and the next day I bought Rag & Bone booties in 3 different colors because that’s the shoe Rassi was wearing. An internship where I thought I’d be locked in a glamorous closet sorting fabulosity all day was in reality being on set basically everyday. I can count on 1 hand the amount of days I sorted wardrobe in ‘The Closet.’ The point to this story is that I could’ve either sank or sailed into the sunset with the love of my life – Fashion. Rassi taught me how to remain calm, handle the constant barking of demands and the structure to being a perfectionist. I want to note that I never got the opportunity to pick her brain at lunch and didn’t ask any questions except 1. I asked while on set, “When do you know when you got the shot?” She simply replied, “That’s a good question.” You must figure it out yourself is the lesson worth its weight in gold.
