Meet Martina Bergstrand Comuzzi: Music Licensing Manager at West One Music Group

We had the good fortune of connecting with Martina Bergstrand Comuzzi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martina, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think a lot of people are unaware that there’s a whole world of music for sync in general. I certainly didn’t know that I could do this for a living! It’s such a big part of the music industry but I guess so many are unaware that it even exists and that there’s real money in it!
I’ve noticed that some are shocked that I license music that sometimes are heard for a few seconds in the background of a tv show. Most maybe don’t know that all music in media needs to be licensed.
Either way, it’s always fun to talk about this part of the music industry and getting people excited about it!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m very proud of myself and the company I work for, for getting through the pandemic and coming out stronger. In a weird way we’ve come together closer as a team and I can’t wait to actually be in the same room as my colleagues again! I think what sets us apart is the fact that we’re such a small team in the US (we’re a UK company) and we really try to help each other out at all times. I love being a part of an uplifting and supportive team!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, there’s so much to do in LA! I’m so eager to have people visit again so I can take them everywhere! But here are some of my favs:
Food: Terroni for Italian, Kiku Sushi, Robota Jinya for ramen, Open Sesame for Mediterranean, Noree Thai, Poke Me, The Golden State for burgers, Redondo Fish Market
Drink: Aperol Spritz/Wine at Terroni, Beers at the breweries in the Arts District, Cold Brew at Cake Monkey
Hang outs: Vintage shopping at Crossroads, Stroll at the Greystone Mansion gardens, Melrose Trading Post for flea market, live shows when they come back!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Massive shoutout to Edwin Cox and Brad Burnside. Without them and their support I wouldn’t be doing what I do as a career today. I think it’s so important to have mentors and these guys have always given great advice and cheered me on. Thanks dudes!
