We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Kitayama and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I would say my biggest risk was trusting in myself, going and truly believing in my capabilities. Not everyone can handle failure or failing. Not everyone can take those short commings and turn them into a positive. So taking the risk and actually believing in yourself is scary. But with that being said. It’s the most empowering thing a person can do for oneself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Most people know my work for vibrant colors, ethereal worlds and my usage of junk to create textures & 3D Effects. My art tells a story, a journey of discovery.

With Creamii Art each piece emerges from the distant planets scattered across the galaxies of the Creamii Art Universe. As the captain of this celestial vessel, I dispatch my crew to voyage through the depths of imagination, gathering the hidden truths and vibrant inspirations waiting to be explored.

Unfortunately, it comes to being a mixed woman in any industry, it will always be a difficult road. It will always be harder, and you will most likely get rejected more than your counterpart. Reality is you will get nearly always get comments deeply rooted in misogyny and or racism. I have learned to help educate more simple minded mentalities, and prove that their opinions have no weight.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So, I am located more East of LA, even though I frequent LA,DTLA and surrounding cities often. I have to give a shoutout to a place that I hold dear to me. A place that has shown me love. Ptown. Downtown,Pomona. The city has a rich art culture and community that I am proud to be a part of. The city is starting to develop and new local shops are popping up.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Creamii Art, would not be here if it wasn’t for the constant support of my friends. They are the ones who are always encouraging me to never give up and that my vision isn’t just a vision but reality. My family has given me the strength to keep pushing even in the darkest times and most of all my son. He has shown me how to open my heart to love and be at peace with life, challenging me along the way, pushing me to want to always do my best for him.
