We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Rice-Horvath and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
As my life has progressed, achieving balance has become more and more difficult. It feels as though the older you get, the more responsibilities you have. I don’t think I have mastered the skill yet. I feel it will always be a work in progress for me. Currently, being 9 months pregnant with my second child, finding balance has been pivotal. Sometimes work is at the forefront. Sometimes it needs to take a backseat. I think the important thing to remember is that both are ok! Being able to navigate through it and the ability to adjust your priorities to suit your current needs is what’s most important and what has worked for me. I also think it’s important to show yourself patience, grace and love.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Amber’s Earth is a health and wellness brand that strives to help others live longer, stronger, and healthier, naturally. As a clinical nutritionist I offer health and wellness services. From meal plans to wellness coaching, I use different modalities to help others achieve their wellness goals whatever they may be. I also have a line of handcrafted, natural and organic beauty products. All of my products are made with organic, raw, calendula infused coconut oil, shea butter imported from Africa and organic essential oils. I currently offer lip balms, sugar scrubs, herbal balms and aromatherapy room and body mists in my shop. I take pride in each and every product that I make. I have been a group fitness instructor since 2012 and a dancer for over 30 years. Dance and teaching group fitness are where I feel most at home, but teaching full-time can be very taxing on the body. I am very fortunate to have the education and skills to have created a health and wellness brand and not have to stick with just one thing which I believe sets me apart from the rest. Currently, yes even at 9 months pregnant, I teach Zumba and POUND fitness (a cardio drumming fitness format) virtually from my fitness studio in my home. I hope to get back to teaching in-person classes once my baby is born. Teaching virtually this past year has given me the opportunity to reach students all over the world, not just in the Denver area where I currently live. As an LA native, it has been so great to still host classes for all of my students in the LA area.
Perfecting my recipes for my products was a challenge and has taken me years, but I never gave up! And the more and more I practiced making the items, the better my products became. Also having the confidence to put myself out there and create this brand has been a challenge. We all doubt ourselves and can be our worst critics sometimes. I have used meditation, mindfulness techniques and positive affirmations to overcome this self doubt and lack of confidence. You need to believe to achieve. If you want to be a bad boss babe, you have to believe you are!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Usually when friends or family are visiting, I ask them to research the area and tell me what they’re most interested in. There is so much to do in the Denver area! One of my favorite places is Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. The trading post hiking trail isn’t too long or too difficult for your guests and gives you spectacular views of the red rocks. If your guests are up for a challenge, climbing to the top of the amphitheatre also provides spectacular views of the Denver area. Mount Falcon park in Morrison, Co is also a great place to hike. The trails at this park also provide spectacular views and there are many different trails to suit the needs of visitors no matter what fitness level they’re at. If it’s ski season, we also like to take guests up to Loveland ski resort to experience all different kinds of winter sports and shopping. I also enjoy eating at The Kitchen and the and the Denver Milk Market both located downtown. Also located downtown, I would also recommend the Denver botanic gardens, Denver nature and science museum and the family friendly Denver zoo.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people in my life that have supported me throughout my journey and continue to support my successes today. First, my Mom. My biggest cheerleader, my Mom has always been supportive of all of my dreams and goals throughout my life. She always helps me in whatever way she can. Whether its helping me label my products, helping me design my logo or brainstorming with me about new products to launch, she has been there every step of the way. My husband has also been a monumental support throughout my journey. He has encouraged me to “go for it” and never look back. I attribute my success to hard work and these two very important people in my life.
