Meet Amélie Pimont | Writer & Film Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amélie Pimont and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amélie, why did you pursue a creative career?
It was the only career where I found myself happy and making others smile, creating is by far what makes life worthwhile for me. If I don’t create for more than a few days, I feel like the fire that burns in me disappears.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started as a photographer because my father was a photographer and wanted to help me in a career he believed could make me happy. It was nice but I soon realized that I wanted to be a filmmaker, I went back to school and started over. At first, it was tricky, going through every possible scenario from making small Indie films and eating pasta on a daily basis for the love of art. After a lot of hard work and many Indie films later, people started referring me to others. At that moment, I thought to myself that I was going in the right direction. I started making films on a regular basis, working again and again with the same crew and helping all the friends I could along the way. At the beginning of the year 2020, right before the pandemic, I had an entire year lined up with films back to back and didn’t know how I could fit in a week to spend time with my family. A year prior to this, I had started writing a novel about love that goes beyond one lifetime inspired by the loss of my mother. During the pandemic, I had to get another job to pay the bills and in all my free time began writing until midnight every day. I released it a few months ago and it has been selling every day. I am almost finished writing my second novel which is about the tough subject of human trafficking. The biggest lesson and advice I would give anyone is to be kind and help each person you come across, there is no better reward than helping others. In the toughest times, and believe me, I have had quite a few, I have always gone out of my way to help, I believe that this is how I have overcome all the challenges that came my way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would show my friend around Los Feliz, my favorite neighborhood, I would drink coffee with my friend at the Figaro Bistrot, take them for dinner at The Little Door in West Hollywood, we would go for a hike with my dogs at Switzer Falls and visit the small shops on Hillhurst and Vermont. We would drive through the hills to look at all these fascinating houses and the views of Los Angeles.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A big thank you to all my friends, acquaintances, and family. I want to thank every person that has stood along my side to make a film with all the pleasures and difficulties this entails. A special thank you to Taylor Meskimen for believing in me as a writer and pushing me to write every evening after a long day of work. A special thank you to my mother that will always be in my heart. Thank you to Margaret Atwood for her exceptional Masterclass on writing. And thank you to our communities, this includes everyone as we all help each other on a daily basis; from the baker that makes the bread, the wonderful salesmen at Trader Joe’s, or the people that sell flowers on the side of the street.
