We had the good fortune of connecting with Amère Blackwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amère, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
If you let it go, it always finds it way back. Many times I’ve taken a step back from my craft, and within 2 weeks I find myself craving it. There have been things I’ve let go and we never found each other again. There’s an element of persistence and go with the flow. You can’t force a situation, and you can walk away from your calling. If you can shut your eyes and it’s there it’s yours grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I used to think a skill or talent was given to someone by God. When I was younger, I wasn’t talented I wanted to be. I wanted to be a singer and actor. So I practiced every day. I’d sing along to my CD’s and read comic books aloud in funny voices. I eventually made my way into community theatre. Each performance wanted to make better than the last so obsessed over it. I rehearsed every day, in as many ways as I could. My efforts didn’t go unnoticed. My talent was never singing or acting, It was the relentless pursuit to be as good as the people I looked up to.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am very much a home body, But we would start our day in Laurel Canyon hiking, then go to the Grove for a movie and some shopping, finish the day with pasta from Pura Vita (my FAV Vegan Italian restaurant).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everyone I’ve met in Los Angeles! I have had the pleasure of working and getting to know many talented artists (the list is HUGE). Every class, Every set has been an eye opening experience and I have immense gratitude the growth and support while I’m still growing!
