We had the good fortune of connecting with Amiracle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amiracle, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue a creative career because a creative lifestyle goes right along with it. What I mean by that is I can be creative about my day to day schedule, my activities, and my work flow. My creative career revolves around performing standup comedy, travel, writing jokes, songs, and creating content for social media. I use to work a 9 to 5 and perform in bands at night and weekends. My schedule was strict and ruled by time clocks and quotas. I never enjoyed the 40 hour work week, working for someone else’s company. It was just to pay the bills and maintain my musician dreams. The jobs I worked brought me lots of frustration, stress, and completely unsatisfied. When I decided to commit my life to pursuing standup comedy, I chose to work a part time job that would allow me to work at my own pace and be my own boss. Uber and Lyft. If you ever caught a ride in a silver Jetta in LA, then we probably had an interesting conversation. My income dropped, but my happiness rose along with my freedom to pursue a creative career with no guarantees of success. But now, my schedule is my own. I get to adjust my hours to fit in new hobbies, learn new things, and experience spontaneous moments. The corporate world never appealed to me. Life can be short and I want to enjoy it as much as possible. Laughing at my struggles, the world, and killing the crowds I entertain brings me joy. Staying creative in comedy feels like a fun career I can enjoy for the rest of my life. If you are considering pursuing this lifestyle, I highly recommend you work your way towards it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Guitar comedy is the least respected form of standup comedy. Finding my own original style of doing it was my challenge. It took a lot of bombing, embarrassing moments, experimentation, and persistence to get up every night. After 7 years, I had the opportunity to perform at a club when Craig Robinson was in the crowd. His validation meant the world to me. He’s the best comedian with a keyboard and his acting skills are hilarious!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shout out to my parents that encouraged me to pursue my creative passions. Also the friends in the comedy game that have helped me along the way with shows, advice, and networking. Frankie Fresh, Cody Woods, Jay Hollingsworth, Franklin Yi, Rick Izquieta, Mike Muratore, Craig Robinson, Greg Dean, and all the guys that have ever booked me on their shows.
